No need for new law: ACP

ACP Ette, when responding to an article in the daily newspapers titled, ‘Law to guide use of new drug machine’, said: “We don’t need a new law. All we need is an internal policy mechanism that will regulate the use of the machine.

“There are laws available to regulate its use, including section 14 of the Police Act, which allows the Police Commissioner to enquire into certain matters at his discretion and that covers all functions of the constabulary.

Wanted Criminals Apprehended in Wewak

The first suspect Junior David Polis, a 24-year-old from Madang and New Ireland, was arrested and charged for a series of crimes including armed robbery, burglary, threatening a female with a factory-made firearm, rape, and several cases of stealing and armed hold-ups.

He had escaped from police custody at Jomba Police Cell on three separate occasions. After being shot and hospitalized, he was arrested again and remanded at Beon Correctional Service in Madang, but later escaped. He was recaptured by police in Wewak earlier this month.

Recruits test positive for pot, ice

Four were part of the regular recruit program, and two were in the police cadet officer program. 

Two in the regular recruit program tested positive for marijuana, while the other two, for methamphetamine or ice. 

Meantime, 26 of 213 applicants failed the medical checks. One-hundred and eighty-five regular recruit applicants and 76 cadet officer applicants advance into the physical training stage of the recruitment process. 

The RPNGC will continue to ensure that persons who are academically qualified, physically and medically fit are selected.

VC Police Post Reopens

National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Silva Sika opened the post for police officers to use and provide police presence in the area and also the government properties that are near the area.

After Sika’s discussion with the management of Vision City had agreed to reopen the police post for police officers to utilize the building as it is already there must be used to serve its purpose.

Impersonators and cop charged

Commander of NCD/Central Assistant Commissioner Anthony Wagambie Junior said this yesterday after Central Police arrested a policeman and three civilians in police uniform, along the Hiritano highway on Friday 30th of March.

Wagambie said no member of the Constabulary in NCD and Central Command will entertain, aid or abet civilians who formerly served as reservists and auxiliaries within the Constabulary. He confirmed that the commissioner’s decision stands. 

Fake NID card for a police job

In Port Moresby yesterday (Tuesday) several fake NID cards were identified by the recruitment team, used by applicants.
 
Internal Security Minister, Peter Tsiamalili Jr, had ordered an immediate investigation.
 
“I have directed the Commissioner of Police to immediately bring the individuals who provided the fake cards in for questioning.  Under no circumstances will we tolerate individuals seeking to undermine the integrity of our NID system,” Minister Tsiamalili Jr said.
 

Kavieng communities told to assist police

A total of K17,318 worth of properties were stolen from the storage workshop including; plumping and electrical materials, iron rods, vacuum pump and a desktop and laptop computer.

The stolen properties belong to China Railway company which is currently engaged by the Provincial Government to build the Kavieng Government Lodge and recently opened Kavieng Stadium. 

Chairman for Law and Order, Edwin Maigen said this is a big letdown and has warned that police will make arrests and put those responsible behind bars. 

Drug seized at h’way checkpoint

Police officers who were doing motorist patrol along the Hiritano Highway were notified of the movement of the nine men who were travelling from Tapani into Port Moresby.

Central Provincial police commander Superintendent John Midi said the police officers were doing motorist check at Doa towards Agevairu on vehicles travelling along the highway when they sighted a suspicious Toyota Land Cruiser that had nine people inside the vehicle.

“Do your job without fear or favour”

Metsupt Sika who had started the clean-up program with the aim to make Port Moresby a safer and cleaner city had encouraged police officers and the NCDC Reservist officers to remove people who were doing street vending at undesignated areas in the city.

He pleased with how the officers had been working and had also encouraged them to work ethically when dealing with the public.

Police deployed to Pindiu

In early February, locals in Quenzenzeng Village were attacked over the beheading of a member of their community. During that time, two men were burnt to death in a house, many were injured while 18 houses were razed to the ground.

In response, the Morobe PPHQ deployed a team on Saturday morning.

Provincial Police Commander, Superintendent Jacob Singura, said the team is now making its way from Gagidu Station to Pindiu.
