Police officer charged for causing death

Central Provincial Police Commander Acting Superintendent Laimo Asi confirmed that the officer has been charged under Section 328 (2) (5) of the Criminal Code and detained at Boroko Police Station.

According to reports from police officers on the ground, the policeman was heading towards Port Moresby from Gaire when he got involved in the accident that claimed the lives of the couple.

The wife died instantly while the husband was taken to the hospital and died a few hours after the incident.

12 arrested for assaulting policeman

According to Police Officers on the ground, the group of men who reside in Kwikila were fighting amongst themselves. When the policemen heard about the incident he walked over to stop the fight. During the cause of stopping the fight, the men retaliated and cut him on his head.

Police report revealed that the same group of men had been consistently disturbing the community when they are drunk.

PNG police can investigate high profile cases

Manning made this comment at the launching of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary Drug and Alcohol Policy in Port Moresby yesterday. 

He said the guilty verdict that has sent prominent lawyer Paul Paraka to prison, is an example of the capability that police have in investigating criminal offences.

 “This is far from the last case we are investigating and RPNGC is committed to ensure that we have a strong front when it comes to dealing with corruption,” he said.

Police launch Drug and Alcohol Policy

The launching was officiated by the Minister for Internal Security, Peter Tsiamalili Jnr, Police Commissioner David Manning, and senior police officers today in Port Moresby.

Assistance Commissioner of Police for NCD-Central, Anthony Wagambie Jr said the quick implementation of this policy was done, because officers are now consuming illegal substance such as cocaine and methamphetamine.

Central Independence Ops Successful

The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary reported that independence police operation in Central Province ended on a high note with no major incidents.

Central Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector Laimo Asi confirmed from situation reports provided to him, that all was quiet during the long weekend.

Operations started on the 14th of September, ensuring that schools and villages conducted their own independence activities without disturbance.

33 imprisoned for Finschhafen clash

Late in July, a man was allegedly killed following a disagreement over landowner identification, believed to be related to a major hydro project at Burum local level government.

Burum LLG president, Philip Polly, said the incident occurred at Serembeng village.

“Gagidu police went and arrested 40 suspects and took them to Gagidu,” said Polly. “While they were still processing the suspects, the family of the deceased got on three vehicles from Lae, went to the village and torched the houses.

Robbery suspects nabbed, charged

They were initially rounded up by police in Bogia District after being informed by locals that the group was allegedly involved in a number of robberies.

Bogia police reported that the young men reside in Newtown in Madang town. It was stated that the group was in the district to attend to a wake (hauskrai) on Sunday, July 23, 2023.

Police apprehended them in the early hours of Monday, July 24.
