509 recruits to begin intensive training

From a pool of 13,039 applicants for the 2023 recruitment, Commissioner Manning announced that 443 regular recruits and 66 cadets have been chosen.

Addressing the recruits and cadets at the Bomana Centre of Excellence in the National Capital District, Commissioner Manning stated that the training duration would be nine months for recruits and three years for cadets.

The commencement of training was marked by an address to the first batch of 222 police cadets and recruits.

Recruits test positive for pot, ice

Four were part of the regular recruit program, and two were in the police cadet officer program. 

Two in the regular recruit program tested positive for marijuana, while the other two, for methamphetamine or ice. 

Meantime, 26 of 213 applicants failed the medical checks. One-hundred and eighty-five regular recruit applicants and 76 cadet officer applicants advance into the physical training stage of the recruitment process. 

The RPNGC will continue to ensure that persons who are academically qualified, physically and medically fit are selected.

13,000 shortlisted for police recruitment

Deputy Commissioner of Police and Chief of Administration, Joanne Clarkson said the final number of the shortlisted applicants is expected to go up once the screening process is completed for the remaining online applications for the rest of the country.

“For 560 positions, this is perhaps the largest number of applications ever received for any police recruitment drive,” Ms Clarkson said.

RPNGC receives 20,000 applications

She said the hard copy applications from those that applied in the provinces have not been received hence the number of applications is expected to increase once all applications arrive in Port Moresby.

The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) advertised a total of 576 positions in November and December of 2022 respectively of which 16 were civilian positions for the Administration Wing, 60 Officer Cadet positions and 500 Regular Police Constable recruit places.
