Kidnapping Investigation Intensifies

Commissioner Manning made it clear that there is no time limit to the investigation, emphasizing that criminals and their associates will be pursued until justice is served. He stressed that this new and emerging crime poses a significant threat to national security and must be eradicated at any cost.

Police probe alleged Fraud at PNG Ports

In a media statement, Commissioner of Police David Manning confirmed that the investigation encompasses transnational economic crimes involving both Papua New Guineans and foreigners.

He stated that former CEOs of the corporation are accused of accepting bribes from International Container Terminal Services Inc., through an Australian intermediary.

Police extend recruitment drive

For Northern region, the team in Madang have started the screening process last week having 1227 regular applicants and 48 cadet applicants (40 direct entry & 8 serving members) at the Marape Hall at Tusbab Secondary School.

It was a rigorous week for the constabulary as they screened and gave exams to the applicants over the week, cutting down the number to 150 applicants within the process.

Police officers upskilled

One of the steps taken to make the year 2023 "the Year of Law-and-Order Reforms", the RPNGC under its existing partnership with the Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance (SILAG) has been providing the much-needed training to upskill members of the police force.

Forty members of RPNGC including Administration personnel have recently been officially inducted into the Public Service after completing a week training on Public Service Induction.

Inquiry into election spending

However, only a small portion was given to the 21 provinces and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.

Morobe Province, being the largest in terms of landmass and population, received K5.4 million from the K460 million.

Chairman of the Special Parliamentary Committee on 2022 General Elections, Allan Bird, said NCD and Morobe received the largest chunk of the budget, with Bird outlining that K10 million in total was disbursed to these two areas.

Other provinces received smaller amounts, with Bird wondering where the remaining K450 million went.

Police destroy drugs

In a recent crackdown, confiscated drugs worth between K1 and K2 million were destroyed in a bonfire. The exhibits, which included marijuana, homemade guns, and ammunition, were seized from offenders between March and November 2022.

Despite being overdue for destruction, the officials ensured that these items were destroyed in a safe manner, with guns and ammunition being dumped in the sea.

Reportedly, the authorities had convicted 32 offenders for possessing drugs between March and November last year, with prison sentences ranging from three to 10 years.

Police to add subclause in meth case

Magistrate Lorna Sani made the decision on Friday, May 5th, following a submission by police prosecutor, Sergeant Vincent Suakai, who sought leave to insert subparagraph (b) of the ‘Controlled Substance Act 2021’ into the information, in relation to the charge under section 68, subsection (1).

Rosso extends sympathies

On behalf of Lae residents and the Board of the Lae City Authority and the Office of Deputy Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Rosso paid tribute to the longtime Lae resident, saying she was an outstanding female officer in the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary.

“She was committed, disciplined and hardworking and has served our nation diligently for 39 years,” said the Lae MP and Deputy PM.

“She was serving in the Lae Metropolitan Command as the Superintendent Administration until her passing.

Kiunga police arrest three men with drugs

The drug weighting 3.4kg worth around 40 to 50 thousand kina street value.

The men are now in the police cell and expected to appear before the Kiunga District Court today Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

They are being charged under new amended Dangerous Drug Act.

The RPNGC website is a key component of the Constabulary’s Digital Development Initiative, which is a comprehensive strategy designed to bring the RPNGC into the digital age.
