Weapons seized in Mt Hagen

This operation carried out in collaboration with the PNG Defence Force, dealt a significant blow to a suspected large-scale illegal weapons trafficking network that had been fueling tribal conflicts and domestic terrorism activities in the Highlands region.

The meticulously planned operation, executed under the leadership of Commissioner of Police David Manning, led to a series of arrests linked to the weapons trafficking network. These arrests were facilitated by the provisions introduced in the Firearms Act of 2022, championed by the Marape-Rosso Government.

509 recruits to begin intensive training

From a pool of 13,039 applicants for the 2023 recruitment, Commissioner Manning announced that 443 regular recruits and 66 cadets have been chosen.

Addressing the recruits and cadets at the Bomana Centre of Excellence in the National Capital District, Commissioner Manning stated that the training duration would be nine months for recruits and three years for cadets.

The commencement of training was marked by an address to the first batch of 222 police cadets and recruits.

RPNGC introduces health insurance

This policy aims to provide seamless medical access to police personnel, marking a departure from the traditional system of upfront payments for medical expenses.

Commissioner of Police, David Manning, stated that the new insurance policy addresses the shortcomings of previous coverage, which required officers to pay medical bills upfront and later seek partial reimbursements. Manning emphasized the urgency of rapid healthcare access, noting that delays are unacceptable in this critical area.

Konos suspect shot by police

Charles Bruno Sepmorong, who is in his 30s, from Bungbeve Village, Namatanai District, is wanted by Konos police for break-and-enter and stealing, cultivation of marijuana, possession of dangerous marijuana, damages caused to the Konos holding cell and escaping lawful custody.

Police say he is also a threat to his immediate family after he allegedly threatened to kill his brother and parents.

Konos police reported that a call was received at 10.15pm on Monday that the suspect was at Laur Primary School in Namatanai.

Woman assaulted by senior Lae policeman

Safety affirmed for Koki

This has been boosted by the launch of the new police station at Koki. Badili Station Commander, Obert Jerry has assured great support to the protection of Koki residency.

“Since I was sent to Badili Police Station I felt like it was a big responsibility. From Koki, 2 Mile, Kaugere, Sabama and others in Moresby South it was a big area,” said Commander Jerry.

He said the new police station that will cater for Police officers every day will acquire more opportunists to be captured in that area and allow a more free and safe environment for citizens.

Tkatchenko said for many years opportunities were given to the people to become productive and positive change in the society. He said the change in Boroko Precinct should be done in Koki as well.

On Sunday, July 9, 2023, authorities gathered with residents to open the police station.

A firm warning was issued to residents and members of the surrounding community to adhere to laws and participate in making the capital city a safe place to live in.

NCD police challenged to perform

This is the second parade directed this year in Moresby North East, spear headed by the NCD Metropolitan Superintendent, Chief Inspector Silva Sika.

The purpose of the parade is to highlight the issues of law and order in NCD and boost the performance of police offices making their role visible to the community.

Public safety officers and other specialist officers in each sectors of the police department took part in the parade.

Police Concerned Over Murders

The most recent incident occurred at the Manu Auto-port informal market on Thursday, June 15, where a Goilala man was brutally killed. The victim was chased by the perpetrators and hacked to death along the road.

In a media statement, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Anthony Wagambie Jr., condemned this act of violence. He said one suspect from Hela Province has been arrested and detained in connection with this killing.
