Police continue clean up

Metropolitan Superintendent Chief Inspector Silva Sika said police won’t stop from removing street vendors doing business at the shops front, bus stops, near government offices, traffic lights, and all other undesignated sites. 

“While the police are doing that the public must support the police to stop buying things that are sold. We must by now teach ourselves to do the right things at the right place at the right time,” Metsupt Sika said.

Man arrested for wife’s murder

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Silva Sika confirmed that the man is the late woman's husband.

Sika also stated that the man was on the run after committing the offence. He said he was finally caught and is now detained at the Hohola Police Station cell.
 
"He will be questioned about the crime committed and will be charged accordingly. I want to commend the hard working officers who did the dawn raid and apprehended the suspect,” Sika said. 

Vendors cry foul over Police mistreatment

This happened outside the Pacific Racing and Sports shop at Gordon.

Dorothy Yapane recalled, “They (NCDC Police Reservist) came out of their vehicle and headed to collect lamb flabs, potatoes, kaukau, sausage and drinks.

“An officer took my bilum and removed seven packets of smoke and K80 cash,” she added.

The vendor alleged that the NCDC Police reservists were starving and had taken advantage of the operation to fill up their empty stomachs.

Another vendor said her freezer with K700 worth of assorted drinks were taken by the operation.

The three focus areas for the RPNG to achieve this intent include;

  1. Grow and improve RPNGC
  2. Build a safer PNG
  3. Strengthen Partnership, Government and Accountability

“We will look at growing the probationary constable numbers by 500 including 30 constables for the Bougainville Police Service and an increase of Commissioned officers by 60.

“Evolve the accommodation policy to encourage good performance and commence implementation of rolling out infrastructure maintenance and police accommodation,” he added.

Police clean up city

Metropolitan Superintendent Chief Inspector Silva Sika told police units in his command to address street vendors who are doing business in undesignated areas to stop and go to a proper marketplace.

The Support Unit officers from Boroko police station have started the awareness within the Boroko area since last week.
On Tuesday 10th of January 2023, the officers started removing street vendors doing business around the Boroko area. The Police Units from Gordon also carried out the same exercise.

Police remove illegal vendors

The ‘clean up’ exercise conducted on illegal vendors was carried out by police units from Zone 3 Command, the Dog unit and other response units led by Gordon police this afternoon. 

Police said the marketplace outside the main market and especially at bus stops are illegal and vendors were ordered to stop. 
Before taking down the market makeshifts, police had carried out awareness this morning through to midday. 

Police conducted awareness and told vendors explaining to them why they had to stop selling things at the bus stop and around the police barracks area. 

Police save vehicles from opportunists

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) NCD and Central Command, Anthony Wagambie Jr one of the vehicles that was involved in an accident was a Toyota Land Cruiser five door. 

He said the vehicle had veered off the road at Nine-mile cemetery this morning at around 8.30. 
The driver and passengers escaped when the CID and Mobile Squad officers patrolling the area arrived at the scene. 

ACP Wagambie Jr said opportunists were trying to remove parts of the vehicle when police arrived and towed the vehicle to a safer location. 

Kokopo police cell refurbished

The maintenance project was inspected and declared for use on Wednesday, 3rd January, 2023 by Kokopo District Court Magistrate Leonard Mesmin and Governor Michael Marum.

The upgrade and maintenance plan was focused on electrical circuits, cell blocks, juvenile cell clocks, kitchen upgrade and toilet facilities.

The facility was funded by the East New Britain Provincial Government under law and order sector with K138, 000 and FinCorp donating K20, 000 under its private-public community outreach.

Nine Arrested For Illegally Possessing Firearms

Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector Daniel Yangen said police confiscated an M16A2 rifle, live ammunition and Police and PNG Defence Force Uniforms.

Chief Inspector Yangen said the suspects were arrested on July 20 and charged with two counts each, under section 7 and section 65A of the Firearms Act and two counts each under section 16 of the Summary Offences Act.

PPC Yangen said the suspects, aged between 19 and 45 years-old, are from Nipa Kutubu and Mendi Munihu districts.

Billie Commends Highlands West

Deputy Commissioner of Police and Chief of Operations, Anton Billie lauded Chimbu, Jiwaka and Western Highlands for a peaceful polling and counting, despite some minor issues during the start of elections.

He said counting and declaration of the 2022 National General Election in Western Highlands, Jiwaka and Chimbu provinces are progressing peacefully without much disturbances as expected.
