“Right now, they are running it and there’s no maintenance and it’s really rundown.

LCA supports Lae sporting teams

“These are Lae teams so we will continue the sponsorship.

“We cannot support every single team in Lae but we will support representative sides and, where necessary, different codes. We don’t have the money to support individual teams.”

“Because it sits in the middle of the city, I have now talked to our good Higher Education and Sports Minister, including the Sports Foundation, and they have now agreed that the Lae City Authority will also take over the management to run the sports stadium for the benefit of the people of Lae,” said Rosso.

LCA to manage Lae Botanic Gardens

Lae MP and chairman of LCA, John Rosso, said residents have questioned why LCA has not actively developed the gardens.

“The Forest Research Institute actually owns the botanic gardens,” Rosso said.

“So it’s very difficult for the LCA to develop it but at the same time, I give credit to the Forest Research Institute because they have been very, very good with us and they have allowed us to use the facilities and work in partnership with them.

LCA takes over Omili field

It was one of the sporting fields that was dubiously acquired by individuals over the years.

The Lae City Authority has maintained that fields and recreational areas should never be used for commercial purposes.

The LCA plans to build a mini stadium at Omili for surrounding communities to use.

The James Khay Oval, along Boundary Road, is next to be fenced once documentation processes have been completed.

The titles for the following sporting fields are now with the people of Lae through LCA:

The project started on June 1st following one of the commitments made by the Lae City Authority (LCA) as part of the restoration exercise for the school.
