Stadium handed over to LCA

Handover takeover documents were signed on Friday, April 12, between LCA CEO, Robin Calistus, and the PNG Sports Foundation CEO, Albert Veratau. This follows the signing of a five-year lease agreement on October 3, 2023.

LCA takes over stadium management

A lease agreement was signed today at the outdoor stadium between the Lae City Authority chief executive officer, Robin Calistus, and the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation CEO, Albert Veratau.

Member for Lae and Deputy Prime Minister, John Rosso, has always stressed on restoring Lae to its glory days; the days when families can enjoy the city and its benefits without fearing for their safety.

Rundown state of Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium evident

Lae MP and Deputy Prime Minister, John Rosso, outlined the rundown state of the sporting facilities when presenting jerseys to the Lae City FC last week.

“I’ve written to the PNG Sports Federation to hand that stadium back to Lae City Authority so we can upgrade, maintain and run it for the city,” Rosso said.

“Right now, they are running it and there’s no maintenance and it’s really rundown.

Armed gang members shot dead

At about 12.30pm on Friday, an armed robbery was carried out in a busy shopping area by a gang who had stolen a 15-seater bus earlier.

Lae police report that the bus was stolen with passengers onboard next to the Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium.

“Criminals posing as genuine passengers held up the bus crew and passengers and directed them to Two-Mile, where the rest of the gang was,” reported police.

Champions League fever sweeps into Lae

Just after lunch, a procession of vehicles with police escorts drove around the city starting from the Lae main market and finishing at Bumbu market.

On board the float with the players from the four teams was the inaugural winner's trophy out on display for all to see.

Starting at 1:30pm will be the third place playoff between Hekari United FC and Markham FC.

The grand final is sure to go down to the wire with the might of Welgris Morobe FC to take on a spirited Gulf Erema FC at 3pm.

Gates will open at 12pm.

Besta FA Cup finals set for this month

The Southern Region will be represented by Port Moresby Soccer Association and Hoods for the men’s, while the women’s will also be represented by PMSA.

From Momase, it’s Morobe Football Association and Madang for the men’s. MFA will represent the women’s as well.

The New Guinea Islands has Talasea for the men’s and Kimbe Soccer Association for the women’s.

The Highlands leg of the Besta FA Cup is currently underway with the winners to join up with the champions from the other three regions in Lae.

WNB Day committee vote executives in Lae

The committee met at the Natural Polytechnic Institute and appointed Eddie Suma as chairman and Enoch Joseph as his vice.

They were task to organise the event and all its preparations.

President of the West New Britain Student Association at Polytechnic Ricky Ben told Loop PNG that they had an overwhelming supports from the committees where they each pledged to give K500 each for the event.

The committee were made up of Unitech and Polytechnic students.

Ben said they have proposed to raise K10,000 to host the event.

HPS launched Leadership Summit program

Thirty successful athletes and coaches will be selected to attend a seven day camp at the Runaway Bay Super Sport Centre in Gold Coast with all expenses paid by HPS PNG.

Candidates will be selected from different sports that are being offered at Gold Coast 2018.

Different sports category involves Athletics, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Lawn Bowls, Hockey, Netball, Rugby7s, Shooting, Squash, Swimming, Triathlon, Weightlifting, Para-Weighting lifting & Athletics, Basketball and Table Tennis.
