Bugandi Cleaned Up

These workers are part of more than 2,000 unemployed men and women engaged through the program, an initiative of Lae MP and LCA chairman John Rosso, to provide a stable income for those who cannot afford to find a job.

Most of the participants are widows and mothers.

Lae MP, who is also the State Minister for Lands and Physical Planning, wants to see Bugandi regain its lost pride and identity.

Nightclub put on notice

The Muse Club, located within the Snack Bar vicinity, has recently started operating without a licence.

A letter from the Lae City Authority, dated February 23rd, was delivered to the club management, asking them to provide proof of their current trading licence or temporarily cease from operating until they receive their licence.

“Should you fail to take heed of this notice, we will consider legal options to enforce this notice without further notice to yourselves,” read the letter.

No licence given to new nightclubs: LCA

The head of LCA, Neil Ellery, told media that he has not sighted any operating licence, which means that those clubs that recently opened in Lae city are operating illegally.

The matter was brought to his attention following recent media articles highlighting the uncontrolled issuance of liquor and operating licences to entertainment facilities, including small shops.

“The liquor licensing board, which is a provincial government statutory body with members appointed by the Provincial Executive Council, needs to have a serious look at this concern,” Ellery stated.
