Female officer promoted

The promotion was done by Police Commissioner, David Manning.

Mt Hagen Station Commander? Inspector Maureen Undaba was elevated to the rank of Senior Inspector. 

The other six officers from around the country arrived in Port Moresby yesterday to receive their promotion; these are NCD Metropolitan Commander Chief Inspector Silva Sika to Superintendent, Western Highlands Provincial Police Commander

Superintendent John Sagom to Chief Superintendent, and thirdly Simbu Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector Epenes Nili to Superintendent. 

Police Reduce NCD Easter Crime

the police presence around the main crime hotspot areas in the National Capital District during the long Easter season has resulted in fewer serious crimes reported.

There were tents set up throughout the city by the police station commanders and their members who did motorist and foot patrols during the five-day operation that started on Thursday and ended on Monday.

The positive result came about because of the efforts that hard-working police officers had put into making their time available in all the hot spots around the city.

Peaceful Easter Weekend, Except for Daru

Dr. Mitna reported that most police commands remained calm, with only a few isolated incidents occurring, which were manageable.

However, there was one unfortunate incident in Daru, Western Province, where a 20-year-old male named David Kowani Miki died under suspicious circumstances while out at sea with members of the PNG Defence Force. This led to looting and damaging of public properties by angry relatives and opportunists in the township. Local police responded quickly and contained the situation. The police are currently investigating the death.

13,000 shortlisted for police recruitment

Deputy Commissioner of Police and Chief of Administration, Joanne Clarkson said the final number of the shortlisted applicants is expected to go up once the screening process is completed for the remaining online applications for the rest of the country.

“For 560 positions, this is perhaps the largest number of applications ever received for any police recruitment drive,” Ms Clarkson said.

Police withdrawn from logging camps

PPC Jacob Singura said all personnel under his command should be back at their respective stations by now.

“This is the lawful order from the Commissioner of Police,” stated Singura.

“And I am enforcing it to ensure that there are no police officers out there lying lazy up at the logging camps.

“You and I should be doing police work.

“That is done and we will no longer have police officers out at the logging camps.”

ETHNIC CLASHES MUST STOP, SIKA

Sika made this appeal following an increase in ethnic clashes within the city in recent weeks. In one of the clashes on Sunday (February 26), a quick response by Gordon Police Station Commander (PSC) Inspector Gabriel Kini and support units stopped an ethnic clash between people from two highlands provinces at Five Mile.

Sika added that there were two ethnic clashes reported during the weekend which police are investigating. He said one was at Derekone Gereka. The fight was between a group of people from Tari (Hela Province) and another group of people from Western Highlands. 

Police cancels firearm licence

The suspect, Fiebik Simon, while allegedly under the influence of alcohol, used a firearm to threaten a woman in the National Capital District and refused to surrender his weapons to police.

Commissioner Manning, as the Registrar of Firearms, cancelled Simon’s two gun licences and forfeited his firearms to the custody of the state.

Suspects surrender to ENB police

The 14 youths from Kopi, at the Nukumal Plantation in the Laup Ward surrendered at 5pm in the heavy downpour.

Sinivit LLG President, Boniface Gerep, commended the 14 youths for surrendering, and thanked their elders for cooperating.

He further advised that the Sinivit LLG will today assist the women and children who were left homeless after their houses were burnt down over the weekend.

“Assistance is on humanitarian grounds,” he stated.

Stakeholders to meet with PMV operators

The meeting is set for Sunday 1 pm at the Unagi Oval in Port Moresby to discuss how they all will work together to serve the people in the city.

In a meeting hosted by the National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Silva Sika today with the concerned authorities including the PMV Association president, had agreed that all PMV owners must be present at the meeting.

The meeting will discuss very important issues and for all parties to come up with solutions for a way forward to be happy while doing business in the city.

98 cops graduate from prosecutors qualifying program

The graduation ceremony for the 98 police prosecutors was held at the APEC Haus in Port Moresby on Thursday, 9th February 2023.

Acting Manager Prosecutions Training, Senior Inspector Ruth Tusela, said this is the first of its kind for the college, the Prosecutions Directorate and the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary.
