Tuition Fees Subsidised

While presenting the school fee cheques to various schools yesterday, 12 August, Mr Tkatchenko said every year for the last 10 years Port Moresby South electorate with the help of NCD Governor, Powes Parkop had committed K2 million towards education.

Out of the K2 million Moresby South boasts of subsidizing school fees, building infrastructures for schools, teachers houses and much more.

It is the vision of the Port Moresby South electorate to have an educated and literate population to be a role model in contributing to the development of the city and the nation.

Hau’ofa holds on after count 9

The incumbent MP collected 215 votes after count 9 putting his progressive tally at 1808.

The only female in the top five, Michelle Hau’ofa in fourth after collecting 5 votes in count 9. Her progressive tally is at 120.

Moresby South Grand Final Nears

Two Mile United 18 dumped Gabutu Dragons 10, and Sub City Raiders ran over JB Roosters 12-6 to make their grand final appearance this weekend

A highly fancied Dragons and Two Mile United opened the semi-final match cheered on by a small crowed who watched on from the stadium. It was a vocal affair between the two teams, as words and actions flowed together with anticipated by both sides.  

Joyce Bay Transforms

Located in the Moresby South electorate, Joyce Bay is one of the oldest settlements in the city with a community comprising of people from the Gulf Province and 11 other ethnic groups from around PNG.

The population has been on a rise since 2013 and with it an influx of migrants from rural to urban areas both seeking employment opportunities and access to improved health and education services.

K1.4m gym, sporting centre for electorate

Funded by the NCDC with a cost of K1.4 million, the gymnasium centre will house up to 300 people and will be managed through the Active City Program.

Officiating the ground breaking, Minister for APEC and member for Moresby South, Justin Tkatchenko, said with the help and financial support of NCD Governor Powes Parkop, Moresby South has seen a number of positive developments and will continue to do so in the long run.

Women leaders save young man

It has also led to the safe return of 18-year-old Dominic Cletus, alleged to have been abducted late Sunday evening.

Dominic was mistakenly linked to a robbery earlier that afternoon, where a bus 11 was held up at Koki bus stop.

He was last seen being forced into a bus 17 at Badili.

His abduction led to the extended family and the Koki community’s retaliation in stopping the buses on Monday.

But father Cletus Gomiai has women leaders Anna Punai, Vero Kai Mary Tokai, Hellen Hivitaro and the women network in Morata to thank.

First election petition trial date set

This is the first election petition, out of the 77 that were initially filed, to have its trial date set in the Court of Disputed Returns.

Justice Collin Makail set the petition for a week trial next month after it went for pre-trial conference today.

Filed by Samson Kirilyo, the trial will be heard at Waigani National Court buildings from November 20-24.

Returning Officer for the Moresby South electorate, Michael Are, has been summoned to give evidence in the trial, amongst others.

​K500,000 for law and order improvement

This is to support police operations in the Moresby South electorate, including programs and activities through the police stations and their commands.

Minister for Lands and Member for Moresby South, Justin Tkatchenko, said this during the joint police station parade at Badili police station on Wednesday morning.

“The funds will help as well to enhance the community policing project that has been going on for the last five years in the markets, public places and suburban areas of Moresby South,” he said.

Moresby South officials commended

Speaking to media outside the counting venue, he said he was happy with how the count progressed quickly and the declaration made today.

Jimmy said while other seats for NCD were still facing issues such as allowances, including Moresby South, the counting officials proceeded to fast track counting.

He further commended Returning Officer, Michael Are, for a job well done.

​Tkatchenko declared!

Returning Officer Michael Are announced Tkatchenko as the returning Moresby South MP at 3.45pm today.

Flanked by incumbent NCD Governor Powes Parkop and Prime Minister Peter O'Neill, Tkatchenko signed the official writ for the seat confirming his victory.

It was a landslide win for Tkatchenko who, according to the final results, polled 19,983 votes, surpassing the absolute majority needed, which is 19,643.

In second place was Samson Kirilyo who polled 5,735 followed by Anna Skate, who polled 4,448 votes.
