Rabaul Concludes Last Count

Counting covered Vunabuk, Rakival and Vunakabai wards of Watom LLG with the progressive total from the last box will be transferred to 66b for exclusion.

The progressive results for the first five candidates are:

WNB counting to start mid-week

Provincial Returning Officer Emily Kelton said Nakanai Open electorate has completed polling and will be the first to begin counting. 

"I'm allowing for Wednesday purposely to have the presiding officers to complete their journals and the reports and then we start counting on Wednesday 8am sharp and then continue on till complete. This will be followed by Talasea and then Kandrian Gloucester. The Provincial (seat) will be the last," said PRO Kelton.

Markham, Kabwum: Violence Condemned

On Saturday, July 16th, political supporters destroyed the counting hall at Mutzing station, Markham District, over allegations of foul play and sorcery, which, they said, was why names were missing in the electoral roll. Ballot boxes were smashed and ballot papers burnt, including a tractor.

On Sunday, July 17th, a large number of Kabwum’s candidates and their supporters mobilised and destroyed all ballot papers and boxes, including a district office. They burnt two vehicles in the process.

Marat still leading after count 19

Counting started at 8.30 this morning. The first ballot box, box 19, was from Watom LLG. Box 19 was polled by Team 133 at Vunaulaiar, Rau, Taranata and Valaur.

Rosso, who was declared with 26,864 primary votes, is returning to serve his second term in the 11th House of Parliament.

Speaking at the Sir Ignatius Kilage indoor complex, he stressed that the people know which leader is performing, and they will vote accordingly.

“I want to say thank you,” he continued.

Commissioner Warns Candidates

Manning said at least 15 candidates who stood for elections in a number of electorates in Enga, are suspected and the Investigative Task Force is compiling reports and statements at this time.

Commissioner Manning said the ITF report would allow the police to apply for search warrants for their persons, known associates, financial assets, and material property and if need be, arrest warrants.
Manning said the task force would be deployed in stages over the coming days to conduct investigations on the suspected candidates.

Huon Gulf into quality checks

Morobe and Salamaua have complete their quality checks while Wampar Rural is still in the process of doing quality checks for its materials.

“Wampar Urban have last two boxes to complete before they do quality checks,” said Returning Officer, Daniel Wasinak.

“Maybe Monday, we should start our exclusions.

“Hopefully, and most probably by Tuesday, we should have a winner declared by then.”

Manning Gives Warning on Enga Elections Failing

Commissioner Manning made this remark following an upsurge in lawlessness within the last 72 hours in parts of the Enga Province.

He said a joint task force comprising of military and police personnel will be established and inserted into the Enga Province at the earliest to restore law and order. The Commissioner also announced that 15 candidates of the various seats within the Enga Province in the 2022 National General Election are currently being investigated for their role in the election related violence.

Twenty (20) boxes brought in for counting covered the following areas, Balanataman- 9 boxes, Kombiu- 6 boxes, Rabaul Urban- 3 and Watom- 2 boxes.

The first box for Box 10 covered Kombiu LLG by team 125- the polling areas were covered were, Nordup, Baai, Matalau and Rakunat resettlement.
