ESP Police strict with liquor ban

From May 12 to May 19 only hotels will be allowed to sell alcohol. The PPC added that from May 19 to July 29, there will be a complete ban on the sale of alcohol.

Beli who is also part of the Liquor Licensing board in the province said, “We (Provincial Liquor Licensing Board) are mindful of small business owners who may be affected by the ban, but it is only for a short term.”

“Anybody (outlet) who defies the restrictions or ban will be severely dealt with.

“Police will also be keeping a close eye on homebrew producers.

SDP announces 41 candidates

About 600 people had expressed their interest to join the party, 50 of whom were women.

Party leader and governor for NCD Powes Parkop spoke highly of the selected candidates, whose backgrounds he described would make them visionary, smart and passionate leaders for the country.

Parkop said SDP is for gender equality and focuses on the resources and efforts of getting women who have a better chance of winning.

SDP Candidate for West Sepik Provincial Seat Dorothy Tekwie said it is an honor to be a candidate for the Social Democratic Party.

Spot checks temporarily suspended

In a press statement released today, Chief Migration Officer, Stanis Hulahau, said business houses are advised to report any suspected operations by persons claiming to be migration officers.

Mr Hulahau made this announcement after receiving complaints from business houses in Port Moresby that some members of the law enforcement agencies pretending to be immigration officers were out doing unsanctioned spot check operations over the weekend.

Investigation is now underway to verify those impersonators and they will be dealt with accordingly.

On Thursday 05 May, the office of Minister released an official call to all governors for a proposed liquor ban.

Namah: I Am Ready To Be Next PM

Namah made the announcement when visiting the remote Yebru village in Vanimo Green district on Wednesday. He said being in the Opposition for more than 13 years has given him the confidence to lead the country after the elections.

He added that his party PNG Party will be endorsing more than 70 candidates in the upcoming national elections.

Involve Church In Election Duties: PM

He said this while appealing to all PNG Electoral Commission workers to uphold the integrity of the Commission during their processing of the elections. 
 
The Prime Minister was speaking in light of the news of a returning officer’s sentencing by Justice Theresa Berrigan to seven years in jail for “corruptly receiving K184,300 to influence the outcome of the elections for NCD seat in the 2017 general election” as reported in the media. 
 

NACS recommends precautions during NGE

NACS Acting Director Tony Lupiwa said election is a time that draws a lot unsafe sexual practices which could lead to transmission of STIs, HIV, cause an increase in unplanned pregnancies, and stimulate other social issues.

"NACS together with its partners; PNG Electoral Commission and National Department of Health are aware of these issues and have therefore developed awareness messages to educate people about these dangers,” said Mr Lupiwa.

Delay Will Not Affect Elections: Sinai

He assured all citizens that the elections will be conducted within the prescribed time as provided in the Constitution and will not get sidetracked.

Mr Sinai said the previous dates were not confirmed and remained tentative, and administratively these dates have now been confirmed now.

“That's why we did not gazette the dates and left it tentative and we have confirmed the election dates and have them gazetted,” he said.

Police Hierarchy Confident To Deliver Elections

Assistance Police Commissioners, Police Commissioner David Manning, Deputy Commissioner Operations Anton Billie and PNG Defence Force and Correctional Services officials attended the two-day conference. 
The team committed to delivering the security overlay required for the elections around the country.

Last week marked the end of the planning phase with the transition now into the pre-deployment and operation proper phases.

Public Servants Told To Remain Neutral

ENB Provincial Executive Council - Human Resource and Public Service Chairman, Toma Vunadidir LLG President, Robert Mati issued this call after noticing a trend, never seen before in the province, of public servants attaching themselves to intending candidates.

“As we are approaching the Issue of Writs for the National General Elections, public servants are seen in vehicles of intending candidates and even contacting people working with intending candidates.
