Police Minister on Proposed Liquor Ban

On Thursday 05 May, the office of Minister released an official call to all governors for a proposed liquor ban.

The women carried banners with slogans that called for a stop to violence against women, saying the sick barbaric practice of torturing women accused of sorcery, must end.

“We represent all the women and girls across the country. On behalf of all the women and girls, I call the government of today, the Prime Minister and the Police Commissioner to impose the bill on women’s rights and see to it that it is exercised. Right now, we feel threatened,” said Elice Siki, NCD Women’s Commissioner.

Minister Onglo Assures Arrest Of Perpetrators

He made this statement while addressing a protest organized by women in NCD at the Police Headquarters in Port Moresby this afternoon.

An army of women all dressed in black turned up with banners at the Police Headquarters demanding the Government to arrest those responsible and face the full force of the justice system.

“We want the Government to enforce the law. Police must go to Kagua Erave and arrest these culprits and put them behind bars,” said Women leader Elice Siki.

Onglo assures of transition benefits

Commissioner Manning said the civil servants will be transferred into the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary police force structure with the workers expected to receive improved salaries and employment condition benefits.

“The transition will take over a year. We will continue to pay you what you are currently receiving, but at some point when you are absorbed into the new structure, your pay will be adjusted ” said Manning.
