PMV looted of goods along Four-Mile stretch in Lae

The truck was reported to have reached Fou-Mile when it was held up and emptied of all its belongings by criminals along the road.

Police were alerted via mobile phone of the incident but upon arriving at the scene, the suspects had already gone into hiding with the good and belongings.

Lae Provincial Police Commander Anthony Wagambie Jnr says that it was an isolated incident of which criminals had planned to hold up any PMV and run away with the goods.

UPNG Students to file new application

Robbie Yansion told Loop PNG outside the Waigani Court house this afternoon he will file a fresh application before the National Court tomorrow.

He made these comments after Justice David Cannings refused an application sought by the students seeking restraining orders against Police being stationed at the UPNG campus.

Yansion said they will be seeking the same orders sought today which were refused due to lack of evidence before the court.

More police flown into Manus camp

David Yapu said the PNG immigration department asked him to provide a police presence after the Supreme Court in PNG ruled the centre was illegal.

A detainee has said police are now controlling the compound, but Mr Yapu said police are assisting the management.

"Their presence at the centre has calmed down the situation. So far I've been getting briefs from them on a daily basis that the situation at the center is quiet and normal."

David Yapu said police are stationed outside and not inside the detention centre.

 

Police ready to deter UPNG students protest march

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Ben Turi  late this afternoon said police will not allow for the march to take place.

Turi said no clearance had been given by the Peace and Good Order Committee, adding that he will not change his stance on this issue.

The NCD police boss said he was wary of opportunists who may take advantage of the situation.

As of this afternoon Turi said the Peace and Good Order Committee had not received any request from the students with regards to police allowing them to carry out their planned protest.

K2000 for North Fly policewomen

 Gazebo Club committee from Tabubil, Western Province, came on board the sponsorship band wagon to support the female officers with K2000 this week.

Gazebo Club president Akolo Kotange, when presenting the cheque to police representatives, acknowledged the hard work put in by the men and women in blue to protect the mining township.

“We the Gazebo Club committee, on behalf of our members, have donated K2000 to the policewomen in North Fly for them to attend the 9th policewomen’s conference in Lae,” Kotange said.

Police trainers to be well-equipped

Police Commissioner Gari Baki says while people blame the training that is given at the Bomana Police College as not doing enough to stop the police brutality and corruption cases, he disagrees.

The training provided is the best training covering basic law, physical fitness, firearms procedures and arrest and police ethics.

The challenge Baki outlines now is to make sure that trainers at the college are well-equipped and are able to meet the challenges of training the new recruits.

Police arrest youths for drugs and homebrew

The 17-year-old was spotted by a police unit outside the Boroko NasFund office area this morning.

The teen will be questioned at the station.

Meantime, another youth, aged 16, was also caught around the Yakapilin secondhand area this morning.

The youth, from Tari, was allegedly under the influence of homebrew and was harassing vendors at the market area.

Both youths are at the Hohola station. 

 

Armed men steal car at Hohola

The victim, from Madang, was held up around 6pm adjacent to the main bus stop there.

Three armed men reportedly pulled the man out of the car as the car was slowing down at the crossing.

The incident was reported with Hohola units, who are now tasked to look into the incident. 

Police catch woman with 5kg of marijuana

The woman was intercepted by a police unit on sector patrol in the area.

Police spotted the woman because of her suspicious behaviour.

The woman, aged 34, was charged at the Hohola police station with drug possession and intent to sell.

She will be appearing in court next week. 

Police carry out awareness in community

Commander for North Bougainville Police, Inspector Aili Spencer urged the community to be prepared and be able to ask questions to the officers conducting the awareness. The locals were urged to clarify anything that has to do with the law and order in the community.

He said all sections within the police department will be represented by an officer and therefore it is better for people attend and ask questions if they have any doubts.

The public must not see this awareness as belonging to the police or those who conduct awareness, but rather a two way conversation.
