Gordon's Police Barracks barricade removed

It was cleared at 9.12am after police personnel and their families, numbering around 500, received a favourable response from NCDC-Central Commander Sylvester Kalaut and Metropolitan Superintendent Ben Turi.

Kalaut gave the directive for police personnel to go to Bomana and forcefully occupy the new vacant houses built last year.

The main gate to the Gordon's Police Barracks was blocked off at around 4am today.

Police personnel and their families residing at the Single Quarters have blocked off the main entrance in frustration over their poor living conditions.

Police concerned over underage pregnancies during election time

During an awareness conducted in Kalo Village at Hula in the Central Province over the weekend, Sergeant Gimana raised concerns on underage pregnancy  affecting young girls in villages.

"During the election period, a lot of candidates and supporters will carry cash to lure voters and young girls can become vunerable to such situations," said PSC Gimana.

He said young girls have become vunerable to unsafe sex because of ignorance and is calling on parents to monitor the movements of their daughters during the election period.

Can Google police YouTube?

A new blog by Google's Chief Business Officer promises more safeguards for advertisers. But I've seen for myself just how hard it seems to be for Google to police its platform.

Philipp Schindler, who runs the Google advertising business, the profit engine fuelling the entire search empire, repeats the apology to advertisers made yesterday by his colleague Matt Brittin.

Kimbe police restrict arrests due to aging facilities

The police are only arresting the ones brought to custody for serious crimes such as drug offences, homebrew, murder and firearms.

Currently, the offenders are being held in a temporary room within the Police Administration building that has been converted to cater as a holding cell.

The Sarakolok Police cell which was holding all offenders after the Buluma and Kimbe cells were condemned have also now been forced to close down by the Provincial Health Authority due to health and hygiene reasons and deemed as beyond human occupation.

“We do not have any money in our possession, we don’t have a police report on it on our station OB (occurrence book) or even on our crime register,” said the PPC.

Police internal affairs need to be vigilant: Turi

NCD metropolitan superintendent, Ben Turi, highlighted the need for police internal affairs to be more vigilant in the charging and dispensing of disciplinary actions.

He says even though many police officers have been charged for ill-discipline, results are rarely seen.

“Since 2015 and early 2016, we charged people but we haven’t seen the result of these charges.

“We charge people from Boroko, the charges are brought down to Badili and they go through the charges then make a decision based on the charges.”
