Robbery suspect nabbed, others at large

Police said the identity of the suspect will be revealed once he is formally charged by the NCD Armed Robbery Squad.

A policeman involved in the arrest said a group of armed criminals used a white sedan and held up a shop at Hohola yesterday. The criminals stole various store goods, including cash and cigarette packets.

Assistant Commissioner of Police NCD Central, Anthony Wagambie Jr said the incident was broadcasted through the police communications network and police units who were on duty began the search across Port Moresby.

Illegal Import Syndicate Busted

According to the NCD/Central Divisional Command, the syndicate is run by a chain of Bangladeshi shops operating at Morata and Hohola in the Natiopnal Capital District.

Members of the Gordon Police and K9 units raided two shops run by the syndicate and netted several cartons of imitation corned luncheon Pork meat.

The raid was initially targeted at confiscating cartons of corned beef and soft drinks allegedly stolen from a major Bangladeshi-owned wholesaler based in the NCD.

Church landscape work needs urgent funding

The much-needed K250,000 work involving excavation, back-filling and stone walling started in March this year, but was suspended two weeks ago pending availability of fund.

Upon completion of the landscape work, there would bigger car parking area as well as catering for extension of the church building and the parish priest’s residence.

The work includes 200 metres of stone walling with seven metres high back filling.

NCD polls: Polling yet to start at Hohola

The Burns Peak ward 7 polling site saw residents turn up as early as 6am to cast their votes.

At 9am, officials for the three polling booths were still setting up as anxious voters waited for them to get ready.

Scrutineers started complaining an hour after the start time, demanding for the polling officials to allow extra time after 6pm to make up for lost time.

Electoral officials explained that the delay was due to logistics in bringing in tables for the polling booths.

NCD shops urged to take precautions against robberies

Two shopping centres were confirmed to have been robbed this morning by looters.

Hohola Police Station commander Senior Inspector Benjamin Kua says the shop that was robbed this morning was done by common thieves - men who lived in the Hohola area.

A shop near the Hohola market was broken into by men armed with a factory made pistol in the early hours of the morning, around 12 to 1am.

Two suspects have been apprehended and are now at the Boroko armed robbery unit at Boroko Police Station, to be questioned and charged.

Armed men steal car at Hohola

The victim, from Madang, was held up around 6pm adjacent to the main bus stop there.

Three armed men reportedly pulled the man out of the car as the car was slowing down at the crossing.

The incident was reported with Hohola units, who are now tasked to look into the incident.
