There is no corruption, Griffin

Professor Griffin described selections as ‘strict’ and ‘controlled’.

“Everybody who has been admitted to any of our programs including the school of law, the selections have been done on merit.”

The Vice Chancellor added, “All the students whose names appeared in the papers and have been enrolled and registered in the University of Papua New Guinea, every one of them have been enrolled and registered on merit.

“So there is no corruption.”

UPNG Students To Represent PNG In Dubai

The World Tourism Expo is a global event that links the world together. It is a platform where countries from all over the world come together to promote their lifestyle, culture and traditions.

The Arts students earned their tickets to Dubai after coming out as the top contemporary creative group in the grand final of the competition towards the expo in late 2021. The team of students include musicians, dancers and actors.

The PNG Tourism Authority sponsors the team to Dubai.

Rev. Koloma Encourages UPNG

Reverend Koloma Makewin encouraged students and staff of the University of Papua New Guinea to have faith in God.

“If God is intending that you become exceptional, I encourage you not just to add up to the numbers, but to make a difference,” said Reverend Koloma.

He also challenged the students that if they are to strive for academic excellence, they must also strive for moral excellence.

The Reverend also encouraged the students to attend fellowship and faith organizations where the Bible and the Word of God is preached.

Uniforce Adjusts To Provide Conducive Service

The USG is responsible for providing personal, equipment and property security for faculty, staff, students and visitors within the UPNG Waigani and Taurama campuses.

They conduct routine security and patrol duties, are the first-line responders during emergencies who manage risks assigned within the University premises.

With the academic year to resume next month, major changes within the Uniforce Security Group has been made that includes increasing the number of manpower in the security force.

Leadership Course For UPNG Students

The graduates are the pioneers of this annual Leadership Programme. The training programme ran for a week to prepare student leaders ahead of the 2022 academic year and beyond. The programme was an initiative by the UPNG Acting Registrar, Roboam Kakap.

 “We are embarking on transforming the university and the student leaders are the ones to take the lead. There is power in student leadership because students can move the administration.

Interns Strengthen Anti-Corruption Efforts

Through the Legal Internship Partnership, TIPNG is able to offer 3rd and 4th Year UPNG Law School students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience as part of its mission to empower people in PNG to take action against corruption.

Students conduct Diplomatic Simulation exercise

The issue presented to the students were of counterfeit trading and Ocean management.

Course Coordinator, Patrick Kaiku said, he chose these discussion topics because they were of relevance to PNG’s sovereignty and national interests.

Diplomatic Simulation is a practical role-play replicating real life situations in negotiations between states and international organisations.  

Students were given assigned roles with responsibilities to play.

Earth without Art is boring

The show ran under the theme ‘Earth without Art is Eh’.

It was a first of its kind performance for the Faculty of Arts to perform the shadow play as well.

Second year Arts student Eugene Avediba, said they hosted the event for two reasons; for academic purposes, and to display their various talents harnessed and also taught while in class.

Global Forex Market Seminar

Facilitator of the Seminar, Peter Kinjap says, Papua New Guineans can be members by registering online.

“Basically, they can go online, find their brokers, register and put in their credentials,” Kinjap said.

Mr Kinjap explained that global forex market is the largest and most liquid financial market in the world that operates between a network of banks.

He said, “The market is made available in a retail market where almost anybody can get engaged by brokers.”

UPNG host cultural show to mark 46th independence

Different cultures from the four regions were showcased by the university students to mark the day.

UPNG Vice Chancellor Professor Frank Griffin in giving his independence address, emphasized on PNG’s strength in unity and diversity. He said PNG is composed of a thousand tribes, not found elsewhere in the world.

Professor Griffin also congratulated PNG on its 46th anniversary of nationhood, adding this is the first national event without the country’s founding father.
