Wapenamanda Flights Resume

PNG Air Flight CG 8490, took off from Port Moresby, passed over Kerema town and up cutting across Eastern Highlands and Chimbu, passing over the Western Highlands to arrive at a warm and sunny welcome in Wapenamanda.

After two years, flights have now resumed service into the newly upgraded 1600m long runway, which was a part of the Civil Aviation Development Investment Program (CADIP) co-financed by the Government and the Asian Development Bank.

PNG Air updates travel protocol

The airline released an updated statement following the controller’s revised protocols for domestic travel.

PNG Air supports Virtual Runway

The partnership will see PNG Air become the official airline carrier of the platform, flying the PNGFDW production team around the country to film the virtual runway shows in East New Britain, New Ireland, Oro, Milne Bay, Western Province, Eastern Highlands and Simbu. 

Other provinces that will be hosting virtual runways are the Central and Gulf provinces.

PNG Air resumes Misima service

Prior to the opening of the airport, locals had to travel by sea to the mainland, which takes almost two days at a cost of K150 per person.

PNG Air chief pilot, engineers and officers from the Milne Bay Provincial Works Department inspected the airport last week and gave the go-ahead for flights to resume after maintenance work was completed.

Airlines apply for PNG Air share

Both PNG Air and Link PNG believe ICCC approval of this will benefit Papua New Guineans and travellers.

Link PNG chairman, Sir Kostas Constantinou, and PNG Air chairman, Augustine Mano, advised that the proposed joint venture between Link PNG and MRDC is based on PNG Air remaining as an independent airline, setting its own airfares and selling its own tickets separately from Air Niugini.

Passengers intending to travel must comply with the following:

  1. Complete Air Passenger Travel Form (APTF)
  2. Provide valid passenger contact number and valid emergency contact name and number.
  3. Submit with photo ID prior to issuing ticket (for tracking purposes)
  4. Provide valid reason for travel in line with Domestic Travel Measures released

“To maximise convenience and connectivity for our customers, we will be placing a Dash 8 Aircraft in Rabaul, operating shuttle services between Rabaul and Hoskins where they can connect onto our ATR aircrafts to their destinations,” states PNG Air.

“Passengers who have made prior bookings are advised to please contact your travel agent to reconfirm and update your flights with a real possibility that you may not reach your destination without added travel segments and travel time.

Successful WNB champs: APNG

With little competition having been held around the country this year, Athletics PNG took the opportunity to fly in a number of targeted national squad athletes for the event to assist their preparations for the National Championships, which will be held next month.

The highlight of the weekend was a sensational 200m time of 21.15 seconds by Leroy Kamau, eclipsing the time set at the 2015 Pacific Games by his coach Nelson Stone, which was at that time the fastest 200m ever recorded by a PNG athlete on home soil.
