Madang Airport Terminal Progressing

NAC Managing Director, Rex Kiponge and team were in Madang this week to assess the progress of works to the terminal. The NAC team met with building contractors and were assured that works on the terminal wound be completed by end of July 2022.

Mr Kiponge said he understands there are many factors slowing the progress of work but a timeframe on when the job will be done is important. He said the contractors must work according to the given timeframe.

Aviation Security Recruits Trained

The training is part of National Airport’s Corporation’s moves towards taking back one of its core functions, which is to provide in-house security services at its airports.

NAC Managing Director, Rex Kiponge said he was impressed with the progress so far.

“So far so good, I’m very impressed. Once completed, this program will be a game changer for NAC,” he said.

NAC: No Extra Fees

The man had claimed on Facebook that the NAC was charging a hefty maintenance fee for travelers, the man is now in police custody.

The suspect, 23, from Kompiam in Enga had posted in the Kompiam Ambum Development Forum Page that claimed that the NAC is charging K200 to airfares to cater for airport maintenance.

Canceled Flights Causing Havoc

Managing Director, Rex Kiponge was responding to numerous complaints regarding the long queues at the airport terminal.

“The long lines that start as early as 3am are due to the cancellation of flights. It has nothing to do with maintenance work being done in the terminal.

“If there is a cancelled flights, passengers from those cancelled flights return the next day as early as 3am to get their new boarding passes and then there are the scheduled flights as well. The queues are long because everyone is rushing to get home for the holidays,” he said.

Kavieng Airport Upgrade Progressing

The airport will resume jet aircraft after the completion of asphalt works on the runway at the end of the month.

NAC says the maintenance work on the runway pavement is critical to ensure the airport is safe and secure for passengers and most importantly complies with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and the Civil Aviation.

NAC Conducts Aerodrome Emergency Training

The National Airports Corporation (NAC) regional office based in Mt Hagen conducted the training.

The annual table top presentation run by NAC’s Compliance Division highlighted basic but important emergency steps and exercises involved in various emergency categories.

NAC Holds Garage Sale To Support NGO

iCARE4U is an NGO operating in Papua New Guinea that supports and empowers women, children and families living with the impact of HIV, to find value in themselves while building acceptance within their communities.

This year, NAC received a number of requests for corporate sponsorship, and among them was iCARE4U who was the only NGO seeking support to build a Water-Well Project at their location at Gereka community, outside Port Moresby.

NAC Condemns Boram Airport Vandalism

NAC Acting Managing Director, Rex Kiponge said NAC condemns the vandalism on the vital airport equipment for air navigation at the airport.

“The vital airport equipment is the newly installed temporary Precision Approach Path Indicator lights (PAPI), which was only completed on Friday 29th October to enable jet flights (Fokker 70 & 1 00) to resume operations into Wewak in time for the travel peak period.

Domestic Terminal Relocates Screening Machines

The scope of work includes replacement of the existing Baggage Conveyor Belt System and Relocation of the Two Baggage Screening X-Ray Machines.

The screening machines from the terminal entrance will be moved to the “Back-Of-House” allowing bags and other items to be screened after they have been checked-in.

 Work on these commenced on Monday, October 25, 2021, and is anticipated to be completed in January 2022.

These improvements will provide a more efficient and reliable system for processing passenger movement and their baggage transfers.

NAC Take Measures To Safeguard Staff

The Government Agency made the decision encouraging more than 700 employees to know their status and make informed decisions regarding treatment as well as the vaccination.

 “As front line workers, it’s very important that our employees protect themselves, their co-workers and families and the travelling public,” said NAC Acting MD and CEO, Rex Kiponge.
