Kalang Advertising saddened by Roger Hau’ofa’s passing

The late Hau’ofa passed on peacefully at 11:42pm on Saturday, March at his wife Pauline’s village, Iare in Kairuku District, Central Province after suffering from kidney disease.

Chief executive officer of Kalang Advertising, trading as FM100 and Hot97FM, John Mong described late Hau’ofa as one of the media giant and King of radio talkback.

Mong said that no one can size up to the degree and magnitude of energy and knowledge he commanded in the radio talkback show he hosted.

The late broadcaster was ill for some time and passed away last weekend.

“The late Hau’ofa was one of the great icons of radio broadcasting in the history of our country, having served in the industry for more than 50 years,” said Dadae.

“He was a great advocate of democracy in promoting freedom of expression on his famous Talk Back show on Kalang radio and now FM100.

“The late Hau’ofa connected well with ordinary people across the nation in debating issues of national importance.

“His talents and skills are admired by many in the media industry and others throughout PNG and abroad. His voice has been a part of the lives of three generations of Papua New Guineans and his kind personality reached out to millions of people. 

Family plans Roger Hau'ofa Kidney Centre

The Roger Hau'ofa Kidney Centre will be set up to address the full spectrum of kidney disease, from prevention, treatment and care.

The late Hau’ofa passed on peacefully at 11.42pm on Saturday at his wife Pauline’s village, Iare in Kairuku District, Central Province, after suffering from kidney disease.

Daughter of late Hau'ofa, Michelle, said the family has walked that path and the vision that they had for their father is that his life will not be in vain.

Hau’ofa knew issues affecting PNG: Media council

The popular FM100 talkback show host passed on late Saturday night at Iare village, in the Kairuku-Hiri District, Central Province.

The show is the country’s longest running radio talkback program with the late Hau’ofa its host for close to 30 years.

Expressing sadness at his passing, MCPNG president Alexander Rheeney said his death is a blow to broadcasting in PNG and robs radio listeners throughout the country of a talk-show host, who knew the issues affecting citizens and held leaders to account on air.

Huge loss for media industry: Polye

“He had a distinctive voice with his fluency in English,” stated Polye. 

“He used to critically analyse important issues affecting the country and created forums on the radio airwaves to prompt policies and legislations to address them.”

Polye said late Hau’ofa had left a legacy with over 50 years of experience which young presenters would aspire to live by.

“He was a strong advocate for democracy, rule of law, good governance and systems of governance, amongst others.

Funeral arrangements for late Hau'ofa to be confirmed

Daughter of late Hau'ofa, Michelle says they’re planning to have the funeral on Friday, March 10 in Port Moresby.

The late Hau’ofa passed on peacefully at 11:42pm on Saturday, March at his wife Pauline’s village, Iare in Kairuku District, Central Province after suffering from a long illness. 

The body of late Hau’ofa was flown to Moresby from the village this morning on a Helifix chopper and is now at the Dove Funeral Home.

Ms Hau'ofa confirmed that the Haus Krai will be held at Paga Hill, Down Town over the next few days.

The family of radio legend the late Roger Hau'ofa is saddened and in mourning following his death on Saturday, March 4.

PM welcomes court decision on nomination fees
