Rape Suspect Caught

Madang Provincial Police Commander, Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang, said on Wednesday afternoon, duty police officers received a call from the relatives of the rape victim that the suspect was sighted at Gomgom village outside Madang airport.

He said the police responded quickly with the help of the family and apprehended the suspect.

“I thank the police officers for their quick response, such people who have no respect for police and escape when arrested will still escape when they see police. I am happy that the police responded quickly.

Woman’s body floats downriver, husband detained

On March 15th, community leaders at Four-Mile Kandis Market reported to police a missing person using the Lae police emergency toll free number.

Three-Mile police attended and were told that a man and his wife had gone to their garden early in the morning, at about 5.30am, but the husband returned alone at around 10am and reported that his wife had gone missing.

A search conducted by the community proved to be unsuccessful.

Police gave them until the next day to continue searching or to wait and see if she returns home.

India girl, 16, burnt alive after Jharkhand rape

Fourteen people have been arrested in connection with the attacks in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand.

Police said the elders had ordered the accused rapists to do 100 sit-ups and pay a 50,000 rupee (£550; $750) fine as punishment.

They were so enraged they beat the girl's parents then set her on fire.

"The two accused thrashed the parents and rushed to the house where they set the girl ablaze with the help of their accomplices," Ashok Ram, the officer in charge of the local police station, told AFP news agency.

Woman with disability raped, killed: Police

The lifeless and battered body of the woman was found at her family residence at East Boroko, Port Moresby.

The NCD metropolitan superintendent, Commander Perou N’Dranou, said according to reports received from Homicide, the body of the woman, from Central Province, was found under the house.

He said following observations from the homicide unit on ground at that time, the woman could have been beaten and raped in the early hours of the morning – between 2 and 3am.

However, it is still unclear on whether it was a gang rape or not.
