Konebada Beach Cleanup

JICA PNG Alumni Association partnered with the National Capital District Commission to do a cleanup activity on Sunday morning, 5 June 2022. 

More than 50 participants from JICA joined this activity.

The event was held to commemorate the World Environment Day and brought JICA staff and ex training participants to work with locals at Konebada.

This was a good opportunity for participants, including children, to think about our greener future.

Informal Sector An Issue, Says NCDC

Chief Health Surveyor for NCDC, Isowa More, spoke about enforcing food safety standards in a changing and innovative world and the challenges and lessons learnt from NCD.

One of the main activities for NCDC is Health and Food safety inspection of business houses, institutions, etc. and this goes for formal food operators or business.

World No Tobacco Day Walk

This is an opportunity to make people aware of the harmful effects of consuming tobacco. This year’s World No Tobacco Day theme is “Tobacco: Threat to our environment.”

The campaign aims to raise awareness among the public about the negative environmental impacts of tobacco.

While the official day for World Tobacco Day is on Tuesday, May 31, the Active City Development Program hosted a walk from Sir Hubert Murray Stadium to Ela Beach for No Tobacco Day in partnership with the World Health Organization and the PNG Cancer Foundation this morning.

NCDC Contractors Pledge Zero -Tolerance On GBV

City Manager, Ravu Frank employees, contractors, service providers and their workers are subject to the policy.

“If and when the contractors or their workers inflict violence on women and girls, their contracts or employment will be terminated immediately. 

FSVAC Manager, Ruth Beriso said the pledge is the focal point of a wider campaign against GBV headed by NCDC and NCD Governor’s Office to drive behavioral change in the way relationships and disputes are managed along their normal line of duty.

Win-win outcome in public transport

This undertaking was reached following a meeting between Governor Powes Parkop and the NCD PMV Association PMV owners in the City on Tuesday afternoon.

Governor Parkop assured them of NCDC's commitment to work with them to achieve a win-win outcome for all stakeholders including the owners and operators and the public.

The meet follows concerns raised by PMV operators after the launch of the Eda Bus Service.

Eda City bus service launched

The capital city’s Governor Powes Parkop said NCDC has been in discussion with relevant stakeholders for a long time to provide this service. 
 
Five Apec buses, now owned by NCDC will service three routes starting tomorrow. 
 
  • Route 1:    Gerehu to Laloki via 9-Mile Roundabout
  • Route 2:   9-Mile to Manu and return back to 9-Mile
  • Route 3: Gerehu- Baruni- Badihagwa-Ela Beach- Koura Way- Waigani- Gerehu.
 

Test And Treat TB To Save Lives

Papua New Guinea remains one of the highest burdened Tuberculosis (TB) countries in the world, a small yet an important gathering was told at Ela Beach.

Active City Development Program (ACDP) hosted a walk from Sir Hubert Murray Stadium to the beach, an event to raise public awareness, promote services and solutions to support men, women and children to realize how TB affects and takes lives.

One of the key messages emphasized was learning about TB signs and symptoms through tests and get treated to save lives.

Parkop Acknowledges Church Contribution

When receiving food donations from the Igelesia Ni Christo Church of Christ on Friday 22nd October, Governor Parkop acknowledge the church for the generous donation, despite its small size. 

“This is not just a mission of the church and the Gospel of Christ but equally a mission for humanity. That we are there for all the people in the world despite whatever differences of barriers. But we can reach out to as many people as possible to lift them, to give them hope, reduce their burden in their daily life,” Governor Parkop said.

Church Donates Rations To NCDC

Despite its 44 years of existence in the country, this is the first time for the church to collaborate with NCDC in their charity mission.

Church Resident Minister, Brother Regino Bong Manangan Jnr, said it is a token to show that the church cares not only for the spiritual lives of the people but physically as well.

NSL: No Deal With NCDC

In a statement, NSL said it is a disappointing outcome for all parties following months of negotiations.

NSL is currently seeking an alternative site and is hopeful that an orderly relocation of squatters can still be achieved. However, if no such site can be found, the Trustee of Nambawan Super will enforce their court-ordered rights to take vacant possession.

NSL has observed that some squatters are still openly building on the land and advises that to do so is ‘reckless’.
