Goroka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) President Sarah Shelley told Loop PNG: “Over the last week I have received numerous complaints from business houses and citizens of Goroka Town concerned about the Goroka water supply situation.

“Business such as hotels and restaurants operating inn Goroka which use the town water supply are largely affected with being supplied with muddy/ dirty water, a major health concern and extremely unacceptable.

EHP farmers to benefit from K22m market

Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso mentioned this in a recent conference that K22 million has been allocated and that the fund was ready to start the market project.

Further arrangements have been made to tender the market project with the National Supply and Tenders Board so work on the province’s market can start immediately.

She adds it is of great urgency that the Eastern Highlands Provincial Government build this market as Eastern Highlanders make their living on agricultural produce and farming.

PNG U20 soccer girls balance school and training

The 28 member train on squad is in intensive training camp at Goroka in Eastern Highlands Province as they prepare for the World Cup.

24 girls are attending Goroka Grammar School, a private school near their camp at the National Sports Institute (NSI) while four of them are working at Pacific Gardens Hotel.

For some it is a continuation of their schooling and for others it is a second chance at an education.

Coach Lisa Cole said this week that she was looking forward to working with the team to ensure they balanced their training and education.

On the road on Boxing Day

Barbara and Delvin Kalenda have taken their four kids on a road trip for the first time on the Highlands Highway to spend the weekend in Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province.

The family however was disappointed when they were forced to turn around after driving for four hours due to a road block at Kompri near Kainantu caused by a fight in the area.

The family, from Manus and Central Province, decided to take a turn onto the highway to Madang Province.
