Goroka residents complain of unclean drinking water

Residents of the Eastern Highlands capital are now complaining of not having access to clean drinking water.

Goroka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) President Sarah Shelley told Loop PNG: “Over the last week I have received numerous complaints from business houses and citizens of Goroka Town concerned about the Goroka water supply situation.

“Business such as hotels and restaurants operating inn Goroka which use the town water supply are largely affected with being supplied with muddy/ dirty water, a major health concern and extremely unacceptable.

“This morning I did go into Goroka Urban Local Level Government to get feedback and see what solutions can be made quickly and I have been reassured that they GULLC are working on the situation as of today to have the problem rectified and have handed out flyers updating the general public and business houses on the current situation regarding the ‘water supply’ along with public apology.

“Thank You, Goroka Town Manager Harold Abori we value your feedback and swift action during this critical period.

Abori in public notice stated that “the water plant will be shut down from May 3-4, 2016 to carry out a major cleanup of the plant.”
