Kamaliki Technical Vocational Training Institute partners with PFIP

The Kamaliki Technical Vocational Training Institute formalised a partnership last Thursday with the United Nations Capital Development Fund through its pacific-based programme the Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme (PFIP). 

The partnership will see the development of Financial Education (FinEd) curriculum for young adults in Goroka.

Rural village praised for launching development association

The Gasagasa Development Association (GDA) was launched this week with a mission to empower rural village people with life skills and knowledge while bringing basic services to the community.

Most of its goals are adapted from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Police officer Sargent Naomi Mara of Rural & Urban in Policing congratulated the people for forming the association in their village as this will help cut down on law and order problems.

Village association aims to build rural library

The library will serve about 500 people that live in the area and nearby villages including Kofica, Kabiufa, Gamuga and Makiroka.

The library project will include a learning centre for women and girls.

The library and learning centre will consist of books, internet access, sewing machine, oven and conference room for girls and women to learn basic life skills.

This will help improve literacy level in the community and empower women or girls in the Notofana area.

The building will be powered by 5 X 250 w solar panels.

Village launches development association

The Gasagasa Development Association (GDA) was launched with a dedication service event on Monday, February 27.

GDA was just formed with a mission to empower rural village people with life skills and knowledge while bringing basic services to the community.

Most of its goals are adapted from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Villager Josupo Hollowe highlighted that they formed the association to work together with government agencies, donors and non-government organisation.

Tkatchenko calls on FIFA to intervene

Justin Tkatchenko said PNGFA president David Chung and John Kapi Natto both have a heart for soccer but unfortunately, they cannot work together and are making the sport fail, affecting players and clubs.

Tkatchenko said the best solution is for FIFA to intervene and say enough is enough.

“FIFA must be concerned with what’s happening in PNG as we are now having two different, separate identities running football,” said the Minister.

“How can sponsors come on board and how can the sport keep moving forward when you got two different groups running the same thing.

Young girls participate in football campaign

 

A number of Papua New Guinea talented young girls from the age of six- to 24 showed up to participate in the program that aimed at promoting and empowering as many young girls as possible and to encourage more women and girls to participate in football.

Children, especially girls from primary schools in Goroka came to participate in the program where they took part in two hours of football skills lessons taught by coaches and the PNG U20 women.

Women in Business Expo brings huge interest

Since the opening of the Women In Business Expo Trade Centre last Thursday, young women and mothers have flown in from all over the country to come in and showcase their handmade products.

These include soaps, shampoos, hand crafted jewelry, meri blouses, bags and caps made from bilums and materials, artifacts to flower arrangements, traditionally cooked delicacies and many more.

Taekwondo seminar to promote sport in Highlands

The seminar will be conducted by Stones Taekwondo for taekwondo fighters and interested participants in the region.

This seminar will involve training on the latest sparring techniques and the scoring system used in the Pacific Games and the recent Rio Olympic Games.

Stones Taekwondo owner and promoter master Jamuga Stone said the interest is building as participants look forward to the training.

Stone encourages all Highlands clubs and their provincial Teams to do early registration and medical checks by September 17.

Government receives investigation report into UOG student unrest

Chairman of the Investigation Team, Lawrence Titimur, said the unrest came about as a result of students who were fed up with others who intimidated and prolonged the student protest over certain government decisions at that time.

He said one of the recommendations was for the UOG Administration to employ a professional security manager to train, equip and look after the needs of the security personnel of the UOG.

50 students injured in UOG students’ clash

However, according to the executive office of the university Pascalis Channel Mape, all have been stabilised but three of them are still under close monitoring from the doctors.

He said shops, offices and schools around the Goroka town area has also been closed due to the students’ riot.

It was reported that there was disagreement between the Chimbu-Goroka and Western Highlands-Enga students on weather In-service students should resume lectures or join the rest and boycott classes in support of UPNG students.
