On the road on Boxing Day

A family of six living in Lae City is spending Boxing Day on a 10-hour road trip.

Barbara and Delvin Kalenda have taken their four kids on a road trip for the first time on the Highlands Highway to spend the weekend in Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province.

The family however was disappointed when they were forced to turn around after driving for four hours due to a road block at Kompri near Kainantu caused by a fight in the area.

The family, from Manus and Central Province, decided to take a turn onto the highway to Madang Province.

“We decided to travel to Madang because it was a waste of time traveling back home as we were already four hours away from Lae.

“The trip to Madang will take us another seven hours but it’s worth it. At least my family gets to enjoy the day on the road as we have never done this before,” Barbara said.

The kids, aged between 4 and 16 years, were excited to spend the day on the road visiting new places.

The excitement grew at Yonki dam where the steep and long bending road got them all scared as this was their first time visiting the area.

They also stopped for pictures along the way and Yonki and Ramu Sugar Plantation were the highlights of the trip.

The family wishes PNG a safe, enjoyable and peaceful festive holidays.
