Closer ICT cooperation

This comes after Minister Masiu travelled to China’s Shenzhen City, recently, for a two-day seminar jointly hosted by the Chinese Ministry of Industry & Information Technology and the ITU on ‘Building a Digital Future for All,’ and the 2023 BRICS Forum on ‘Future Networks Innovation.’

“Apart from the resounding support I got from the participants on a stronger Pacific voice in international ICT organizations like the ITU and the UN, I was able to secure more ICT projects for the country,” said the minister.

China invites PNG medical professionals for training

This follows after the Chinese government signed a renewed protocol for the continuation of China's medical team to PNG, signalling a strong desire to continue medical and healthcare exchanges between the two countries.

The China Medical Team Leader, Chen Gang said since the inception of the team in PNG they have trained and conducted invasive healthcare services to the people of PNG and invite the PNG medical team to get medical training in overseas.

China partnership with WPU

While it is a government institution requiring government funding support, it has sourced funding partnership from the Chinese government to build much needed basic infrastructure to make it viable for the core function to proceed, that is teaching and learning.

“The government of China has also provided, has built for us six staff houses, three bedroom, our staff houses, one lecture block and three male dormitories which were opened early, which were handed over to Western Pacific University in January this year and received by the Minister for Higher Education, Don Polye.

T-Shirts For HIV Awareness

The Chinese Embassy’s Director of Political Section, Sun Jai, stated that the shirts bearing NACS HIV prevention messages were for the general elections.

NACS Acting Director, Tony Lupiwa, said they were aware of the election activities that accompanies some risky practices.

He said the election experiences a lot of violence, drug and alcohol abuse, unsafe sexual practices including transitional sexual activities.

The shirts will be distributed to health authorities once awareness is done in different provinces.

China Backs PNG’s Response To COVID-19

Chinese Ambassador, Zeng Fanhua, recently presented the cheque to the Controller of the National Pandemic Response and Police Commissioner, David Manning.
Mr Zeng said China extends its sincere sympathy to the government and people of PNG who is going through a new wave of COVID-19.

“Papua New Guinea is a good friend and a partner of China. Mutual help in difficult times has built a deep friendship between our two countries,’’ he said.
