BREAKING: Broncos flyer’s shock switch to link up with Queensland rivals

Isaako has already signed with the Dolphins for the 2023 season and fell down the pecking order in Red Hill.

It was widely reported that the 25-year-old would join up with the Eels, but has since made a shock switch with 9News Ben Dobbin reporting the winger wanted to remain in Queensland.

“The Broncos have granted Jamayne Isaako an immediate release from his contract with the club,” the club said in a statement.

“The Broncos were happy to facilitate the request and wish Jamayne and his young family all the best in the future, both on and off the field.”

Broncos star set to join Eels immediately

That is according to Triple M’s Ben Dobbin who is reporting the 25-year-old will be granted an immediate release from his Broncos contract.

Isaako’s Eels deal will be for the remainder of the season before he joines expansion club, the Dolphins on a three-year deal from 2023 — a deal he inked in December.

The 2018 Dally M Rookie of the Year has played 77 NRL games for the Broncos, including their Round 1 win over the Rabbitohs. However he did not feature in Round 2.

Broncos solve halves headache — but a ‘Ferrari’ was missing; Burton causes nightmares: 3 Big Hits

The Dogs got on the board first thanks to a Braidon Burns try. They were able to capitalise off a Broncos error when fullback Tesi Niu dropped a stunning Matt Burton bomb — that sideline commentator James Hooper dubbed “genius.”

Brisbane hit back through Corey Oates who scored off a pinpoint Albert Kelly kick.

Neither Burton or Reynolds could convert the tries to scores were locked up 4-all at half time.

Broncos stun Rabbitohs as Capewell, Haas stand tall

Taking over the captaincy in Adam Reynolds' absence, Capewell capped a superb game with the booming field goal from 25 metres out with four minutes to play.

After having a try to Selwyn Cobbo in the 14th minute denied by a desperate cover tackle from Jaxson Paulo, the Broncos finally broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute when Albert Kelly intercepted a Cody Walker pass and sprinted 85 metres to score.

Broncos v Rabbitohs: Kelly gets No.7; Ilias steers ship

Not only is Reynolds out, but also forward Kobe Hetherington, five-eighth Tyson Gamble and hooker Corey Paix.

The match would have been the first for Reynolds in Broncos colours as he was rested from the pre-season trials while coach Kevin Walters tried to determine who would partner him in the halves.

In the end it didn't matter and another new recruit, Billy Walters, will play alongside Albert Kelly against the new Rabbitohs pairing of Cody Walker and rookie halfback Lachlan Ilias.

All eyes were on the halves with Billy Walters picked at halfback alongside Tyson Gamble for the Broncos after Albert Kelly was ruled out due to Covid protocols.

Gamble stuck his nose out in front when he set up Jordan Riki for the opening try with a smart grubber.

The Cowboys answered back through gun fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow who put in a grubber for himself.

Then six minutes later Holmes crossed untouched and then converted to take his team to a 12-6 lead.

New Broncos Impress In Opening Trial Win

Middle forwards Tom Flegler, Keenan Palasia and Kobe Hetherington laid the foundation early with some big runs and big hits in the 10-try effort, while Brendan Piakura also got in on the act with a bone-rattler in the 9th minute that forced an error.

Hooker Cory Paix looked good scheming from dummy half and captialised on a strong charge by Piakura in the 15th minute – the rake throwing a dummy and burrowing over for the opening try. Isaako converted for a 6-0 lead.

Adam Reynolds announced as new Broncos captain

The goal-kicking halfback with 231 NRL appearances to his name becomes the 13th player including inaugural NRLW skipper Ali Brigginshaw to be named permanent Captain as the Club enters its 35th season in the competition.

Walters: Defense Key In Race For No.6 Jersey

One of the big talking points in the lead-up to the blockbuster Round 1 clash with the Rabbitohs at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night, March 11, is which Bronco out of Tyson Gamble, Albert Kelly, Billy Walters and Ezra Mam will fill the five-eighth role.

All four are worthy candidates and today Walters revealed the most important criteria coaching staff are looking at when it comes to finalising the halves partnership.

Tug of War over Farnworth

The 22-year-old’s future has been in the headlines for months ever since it was revealed he was on the wish list of Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett.

Farnworth has now paused extension negotiations with the Broncos until at least the start of the season in March, opening the door for the Dolphins to nail their target, according to News Corp.
