Metropolitan Superintendent, Anthony Wagambie Jnr, said the factory made pistol grip shotgun belongs to Nadzab Police was recovered by Police Criminal Investigation Department last week in the Morobe provincial capital.

“We had been tracing that gun for some time after it was stolen from Nadzab Police following an armed robbery last year, where the principal of a secondary school was held up and large amount of money belonging to the school stolen,” Wagambie Jnr said.

He said the gun was taken from the policeman who was providing escort to the school principal.

Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr said the page was used last Friday because of the massive prison break at Buimo Prison.

He said the page was set up to interact with public in solving the law and order problem in the Morobe provincial capital. 

“Please use this page to bring to our attention, areas of concern regarding policing,” Wagambie Jnr said.

Lae metropolitan commander, Chief Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr, has urged them to be mature and to campaign without resorting to bribery.

“Voters and campaign managers are not to give sweet talks and encourage candidates to spend carelessly to entice voters,” said the police boss.

“Candidates and those that campaign must stand firm and campaign fairly as true and honest leaders.”

Wagambie stressed that police personnel will be out in numbers to ensure that the elections are conducted within stated boundaries.

Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr said the incident occurred on Saturday night at West Taraka.

“There was a domestic dispute between a husband and wife. The husband badly assaulted the wife, resulting in the family members of the wife stepping in and attacking the husband, who is now the subject of murder,” Wagambie Jr said.

Wagambie Jr said the man, who was stabbed in the fight, was pronounced dead at the Angau Hospital.   

“The suspect is a prison escapee,” said Lae’s police boss.

“I am calling the Lae District and Morobe Provincial Government to seriously think of removing illegal settlements,” Supt Wagambie Jr said.

Supt Wagambie Jr said this following a fight between Southern Highlanders and Engans resulting in four houses burnt down and food gardens destroyed at Banana block at 7th street on the day of the country’s 41^st independence celebrations.

Lae MP Loujaya Kouza in addressing the people of Lae city during the 41st Independence anniversary celebrations at the Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium admitted that there were problems deterring day to day operations of the Police force but with a young head like Wagambie, he is able to lead his 200 plus men.

“To have a young man like you Met Supt to tame 200 plus man in Morobe is not an easy road but you have managed to tackle law and order in the province with what you have,” Ms Kouza said.

Members of the Lae metropolitan command and colleagues from the Australian Federal Police put on a parade during the handover takeover ceremony between former Metropolitan superintendent Iven Lakatani and welcomed Wagambie Jr.

"I will continue on from where the former Met Supt has left. But policing priorities will be focused on motor vehicle thefts, armed robberies, and school fights," he said.

"Lae is a very challenging command because of increasing business activities as well as increased settlements and it is connected by road and sea to many other provinces."
