Erima flyover

Armed suspect apprehended at Erima

Acting NCD Central Police Commander and Assistant Commissioner, Anthony Wagambie Junior, said the suspect has been arrested and charged and is being detained at Boroko Cell awaiting court appearance.

On his Facebook page, Wagambie Jnr said Fox 300 units have been tasked to provide static presence in this area every morning so as to deter youths from carrying out criminal activity.

The Erima flyover is a hotspot for petty crimes and attempted car thefts, where many Port Moresby residents have fallen victim while commuting in the area.

Flyover area to be monitored

However, illegal vending and the use of the area underneath the flyover have given rise to criminal and other illegal activities.

The National Capital District Commission says the area under the flyover is now out of bound and penalties will be imposed to intruders.

NCDC Regulatory Services and City Manager Bernard Kipit say effective as of March 22nd, all vending and commuting under the area beneath the Kumul Flyover must be stopped.

Man’s neck chopped off near flyover

The National Capital District metropolitan superintendent, Commander Ben Turi, confirmed the incident with Loop PNG, saying the man was from Tari, Hela Province.

Turi says details are still sketchy at the moment.

“Someone saw what happened; we need witnesses to come forward.”

He is urging the public to help them with information so that they can carry out an investigation.

Meanwhile, Turi revealed that two men were tortured to death at Badili on Monday.

“The men, from Lufa, Eastern Highlands, were killed over allegations of sorcery.”
