Newspaper staff donates 21 bags in Corporate Blood Drive

Port Moresby General Hospital and Corporate Blood Drive team thanked the newspaper staff for rolling up your sleeves once again for this worthy cause by donated blood yesterday.

The CBD team managed to collect a total of 21 bags of life-saving blood from the newspaper team.

“Your generous donations will save many lives and help many ill patients at PMGH,” a CBD rep said.

Melton Pais, a journalist said he was delighted to donate blood for a second time.

Santa visits PMGH children’s ward

Head of Credit for Fincorp, Adam Hughes, dressed in a Santa attire, joined his team in giving early Christmas presents to every child in the children's ward at PMGH.

Hughes said it was a great opportunity to visit this special group of children recovering at the hospital.

He added that it was sad to hear that more than 100 sick children would be spending Christmas at the hospital and the team delightedly spent some moments with every child in the ward.

Youth Blood Drive team thanks Bomana police trainees

The Port Moresby General Hospital Youth Blood Team managed to collect a total of 91 bags of life-saving blood.

Police trainees said, they were motivated to donate blood because they believe that one day they might need a blood transfusion when their families or relatives are not around to donate, this blood collection could save their lives.

Others said knowing their blood could save the lives of mothers, babies or those in accidents is an amazing feeling and would be willing to keep donating blood in future.

PNGDF personnel arrested for bashing up captain’s son

The incident took place on Sunday, 27th November, at the army barracks at ATS when Captain Patrick Minjihau’s son and his friend were drinking outside his home.

They were allegedly approached by another group of officers, who were also drinking the previous night (Saturday).

They had a heated argument when one of the two boys swore at them. The men then retaliated by punching the boys.

The boys were chased into their own yard by the soldiers, where they turned and chased the officers out again.

PMGH setting blood collection trend

They are providing adequate and safe blood to meet the transfusion needs of all patients.

This transformation came about three years ago, with the establishment of the Corporate Blood Drive and the recent Youth Blood Drive programs, which have increased blood collection.

With the great support of the hard-working staff, who are the core drivers of the blood bank, the hospital is getting enough blood reserved for patients in need of life-saving transfusions.

Muddle leaves PMGH

Muddle’s contract ended in June this year and the hospital has seen a remarkable change under his leadership since he joined almost three-and-a-half years ago.

The hospital staff and management thanked Muddle for his efforts and everything that he has done to lift PMGH to a global standard hospital.

Director Medical Services, Dr. David Mokela, extended his sincere thanks to Muddle for taking the lead in developing the hospital.

PMGH wins Health Sports Day shield

PMGH staff sports teams won the basketball and volleyball games against 12 teams from other health organizations within National Capital District.

The teams included Laloki Hospital, NCD Health Services, National Department of Health and Central Public Health Laboratory (CPHL).

Annual Health Sports Day coordinator, Johnson George says the event was marked on the health calendar to get the health professionals to engage in fun activities and get to know each other during this yearly event.

Health facilities will come under review

The review will be done in liaison with the Health Department.

Chairman of the Special Parliamentary Committee, Elias Kapavore, says the committee should come up with a report by the end of the year.

Kapavore states his committee has instructed the Minister for Heath and his Secretary to do an accreditation survey so they can establish the current reality and identify the gaps in the health facilities in NCD.

This review will cover both the public and private health facilities in the city.

Hospital staff undergo OOH training in India

The three hard working staff of the Port Moresby General Hospital thanked the Operation Open Heart (OOH) Foundation for funding the three months of further training in India.

Two nurses, Sister Noelyn Wangi and Sister Jean Boie will undergo cardiothoracic nursing training while Perfusionist and Anesthetic Technician, Norman Kambo will undergo pediatric perfusionist training.

The three left the country earlier this week to undergo training at Dr Cherian Heart Foundation in Chennai, South India.
