Air Niugini announces new General Manager for Link PNG

The Chairman of Air Niugini and Link PNG, Sir Frederick Reiher, welcomed the new General Manager today.  He said with Alabaster’s 25 years experience in the aviation industry, the board and management are confident he will take the airline forward in its second year of operation.

Hoskins port achieve best OTP in 2015

Hoskins together with Lae, Rabaul, Madang and Mt Hagen are a category A ports that handle two to four flights on a daily basis.

Air Niugini Chief Executive Officer, Simon Foo presented the shield to Hoskins Port Manager, Wesley Taito during the annual Port Managers conference in Port Moresby over the weekend.

He commended Taito and his staff for an excellent team work that resulted in them taking the top spot in category A.

Asylum seekers disrupts Madang to Manus flights

An eyewitness Brian H Waffi posted on his facebook page alerting the public about the incident.

He said the flight was disrupted after two Asylum Seekers protested and tried to break the airplanes glass protested not to go to Manus.

“The plane was about to lift off when the two started hitting the windows and crying out loud struggling with the air hostess.

Air Niugini unveils ‘ Hoskins’

The naming of the aeroplane will coincide with the PNG Games in November which West New Britain is hosting.

Air Niugini chairman Sir Frederick Reiher said the naming also shows the contributions the province has contributed to Air Niugini for its services.

The event is significant to WNB Province as the PNG Games logo was also on the aircraft promoting the Games in Kimbe as it flies around the country.

The event was witnessed by Governor Sasindran Muthuvel, Provincial Administrator Williamson Hosea and the team from HOC.

Air Niugini appoints female officer to head regional office

Kilo departs Port Moresby for Honiara today to take up the post.

Kilo is not new to Air Niugini, having worked with the airline for 32 years, spending most of her time in sales and marketing.

Air Niugini General Manager-Customers and Markets, Dominic Kaumu in congratulating Kilo said the appointment was made on merit.

He said whilst the international exposure was important to grooming national managers, it was more encouraging to see a PNG woman taking up managerial role overseas.

A cleverly devised trick took the Buimo jail officers by surprise, which saw the mass breakout, occur with 94 prisoners escaping on Thursday Feb 25.

PX airlifts Fiji relief supplies

The relief supplies in 225 boxes containing mattresses, tents and plastic rolls were donated by JICA in Singapore. Air Niugini uplifted the supplies from Singapore to Port Moresby yesterday and now to Nadi, Fiji.

Since Cyclone Winston swept through Fiji over the weekend, more than 40 deaths were recorded, thousands of people made homeless and millions of dollars’ worth of damage done to properties and infrastructure.

PX 084 departed Port Moresby at 10am; it should arrive at Nadi airport by 4:10pm. This flight goes via Honiara, Solomon Islands.

Hayfield airstrip still needs upgrading

This is one of the proposed routes for the state owned subsidiary of Air Niugini to land in East Sepik the Province.

Link PNG acting general manager Marco McConnell told Loop PNG that a lot of work is still needed for the airstrip to meet standard and criteria for flight operations.     

“A lot of work had to go into that like, feasibility studies, surveys, markets in that area for approvals.”

He added that airport authorities will have to certify the airstrip before planes can land.  

Air Niugini to resume flights to Fiji

The decision to resume services was made after all risk assessments were carried out over the last two days and clearance given.

Air Niugini cancelled its service to Nadi on Saturday (Feb 20) due to Cyclone Winston which swept through the country over the weekend, causing millions of dollars worth of damage to properties and infrastructure, several deaths were recorded and thousands of people made homeless.

Flight PX 084 only operated to Honiara, Solomon Islands and back, the Honiara/Nadi sector was cancelled.

Air Niugini cancels Fiji flights

Flight PX 084 scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday 21st February will operate from Port Moresby to Honiara, Solomon Islands and back. The Honiara/Nadi sector is temporary suspended until further notice.

Passengers who have been booked to and from Fiji may rebook to travel later or obtain refunds without penalties. Air Niugini is closely monitoring the situation and will advise when Fiji flights resume.

ANG operates three weekly flights to Nadi via Honiara every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday.
