Air Niugini submitted its authorisation application to code-share with Qantas on 27^th July, 2016. 

ICCC Commissioner and CEO Paulus Ain said, “The ICCC granted authorisation to Air Niugini to enter into and give effect to the code-share agreement with Qantas for a period of five years commencing 10^th November.

The outsourcing of its ticket sales and airport services at selected domestic centres are some of the steps the airline has taken to help its customers.

It is being outsourced through a carefully managed process, ensuring a seamless transition.

To compete with the airline industry around the world, Air Niugini is also getting on board to embrace a change in the way it conducts its business.

General Manager, Customers and Markets Dominic Kaumu made these remarks when signing an agreement with a travel agency in Kieta last Wednesday.

He said the outsourcing of its sales office was part of the airline’s effort to streamline operations, however, its major domestic ports will not be affected.

Kaumu and Manageress of Poonang Travel Agency, Pamela Dasiona signed an agreement in Kieta to seal the handover/take over arrangement.

This brings the total number of offices outsourced so far to three in the Autonomous region of Bougainville.

Chairman of the board Sir Frederick Reiher when commending staff and stakeholders of the 43rd anniversary in Rabaul, said when industries such as mining, Oil and gas construction slow, Air Niugini will be impacted seriously.

"I want to be frank and upfront about this. These are tough and challenging times for Air Niugini.

"Passenger numbers, especially on most of our domestic routes are down, well down.

"That is despite the fact that we have not increased fares, and have sought to offer as many concessional fares for families as possible," he said.

The naming will be in recognition of the importance Rabaul, and East New Britain are to Air Niugini’s domestic air services.

The naming ceremony will be followed by a corporate function in the evening to be attended by Air Niugini’s key business partners and stake holders in East New Britain.

An Open Day will also be held the following day, Saturday 28th October at Vunapope School hall.

The day is open to the general public and commences from 10am to 3pm.

This year Air Niugini choses ENB to stage the anniversary as It’s a way of bringing Air Niugini to other parts of Papua New Guinea instead of having all anniversary celebrations centered around Port Moresby.

Last year, the anniversary celebrations were held in Mt Hagen and the year before in Lae.

From an humble beginning, Air Niugini took to the skies in 1973, taking over Papua New Guinea’s established domestic routes and opening up previously inaccessible areas to locals and tourists.

It’s a way of bringing Air Niugini to other parts of Papua New Guinea instead of having all anniversary celebrations centred around Port Moresby.

Last year , the anniversary celebrations were held in Mt Hagen and the year before in Lae.

Chief Executive Officer, Simon Foo said the 43rd anniversary activities will commence with a ceremony to name one of its Fokker 100 jets “ Rabaul” on Friday 28th October. 

He said “ This is in recognition of the importance Rabaul, and East New Britain are to Air Niugini’s domestic air services. “

The ban takes effect immediately.

“This action is in view of the recently issued emergency alerts by major aviation regulatory authorities stating that the safety issue regarding Samsung Galaxy Note 7 still persists,” Air Niugini said in a statement.

Samsung recently recalled and replaced all its Galaxy Note 7 following an incident in an aircraft overseas, however, the issue seems to have reoccurred.

Murray successfully obtained a stay order against the termination of eight national pilots after they filed an application seeking leave of court for a judicial review on their termination. Leave was granted on Friday.

Speaking to Loop PNG from Wewak today, he said the orders were served on the Air Niugini Management on Tuesday however could not confirm if his clients had been put back on the roster for work.

He was however informed by his clients that the pilot who was evicted from Air Niugini’s accommodation was called in by the management.

Executive manager for Flight Operations Captain Samiu Taufa has revealed that training is a priority for Air Niugini.

He said training their staff enables them to be the biggest state entity in the country to provide such good training for them.

“Air Niugini is the national flag carrier and safety is of paramount importance to Air Niugini. Therefore we always train people to become the best in the various fields.”

He said Air Niugini have a good record of safety in the world because of so much emphasis put towards training its staff.
