PNG Dataco awarded top performing SOE

The prestigious award was received by PNG Dataco, CEO, Paul Komboi who was humbled and honoured in being recognized as a top performing SOE in 2023 during the presentation of awards at the 2023 PNGHRI Annual Conference in Port Moresby recently.

“On behalf of every individual at PNG DataCo, I extend our deepest gratitude to the PNGHRI for bestowing upon us the esteemed title of the Top State-Owned Enterprise in Papua New Guinea,” he said.

Laptops for Grace Memorial

The laptops were presented by PNG DataCo Limited’s Domestic Business Manager, Kaime Kipi, on Monday this week.

Kipi acknowledged Wau-Waria MP Marsh Nawarec for the partnership in ensuring PNG DataCo Limited's Community Service Obligations initiative was in line with district initiatives.

“The presentation of these laptops will greatly benefit the students of Grace Memorial Technical Secondary School in their learning,” Kipi said. 

The laptops will help teachers with lesson plans, with reliable access to new teaching content.

Partnership forged to Prevent Indecent Online Material

The MoA, will particularly focus on preventing the circulation of indecent online material within the country via DataCo's digital infrastructure, specifically the National Transmission Network (NTN).

As the operator of the digital infrastructure, DataCo has control and rights over key telecommunication digital infrastructure, including international cables and internet gateways for the passage and transit of information to PNG from outside of PNG and from the cyber world as well as within PNG.

NFA & Dataco sign digital transformation agreement

This move is in line with the government's ICT Modernisation Plan and directives outlined in the Digital Government Transformation Policy and Legislation.

Justin Ilakini, the Managing Director of NFA, stated that the fisheries industry is undergoing organizational and sector reforms. To effectively move forward, it is crucial to utilize digital tools and virtual infrastructure that will enhance the process and impact of these reforms.

Fibre Optic Cable lands in ARoB

On a low key note, the landing in Arawa was witnessed by PNG DataCo Limited representatives and Arawa Town Mayor Augustine Barkson and Deputy Mayor Genevieve Korokoro. Both Mr Barkson and Ms Korokoro have been instrumental in the AROB part of the project. They say there is a sense of interest shown by the public towards the arrival of the cable and its benefits.

“We are fortunate to have this infrastructure and we will continue to educate our people about the opportunities the infrastructure will bring,” Ms Korokoro said.
