Family At Hetwara Get Medical Help

Rai Coast District Election security operation Commander Inspector Steven Yalamu said the three were attacked earlier this week but could not be taken to the hospital quickly because the heavily armed Hetwara gang were at the airstrip after the attack.

Inspector Yalamu said during the attack, a 15-year-old girl was abducted and sexually assaulted. He said they also killed one man and destroyed properties. Villagers in Gwarawon were chased into the bush.

Teen Killed in Lae

Lae metropolitan superintendent, Chris Kunyanban, said the teenager, who resided at the Bumbu settlement, joined a number of city residents at a PANGU Pati rally at the Papuan Compound field.

“On Sunday, 19th June, between 3 and 4 o’clock in the afternoon, the Lae Open candidate was hosting his usual rally, with different people going in; some were supporters, some were not genuine and some were opportunists,” said Chief Superintendent Kunyanban.

Mobile Squad In NIP

New Ireland Provincial Police Commander, Felix Nebanat, said offenders are capitalising on the constraints faced by local police, hence the escalation in crime.

The mobile squad unit was called in by PPC Nebanat after his officers were attacked when responding to a wilful damage report involving over K20,000 worth of goods.

Furthermore, following the rise in lawlessness on the Tigak islands, Chief inspector Nebanat urged all New Irelanders to cooperate with police to restore normalcy on the islands.

Nebanat on Law & Order

Since taking office in May this year, Nebanat has been analysing the trend of law and order issues and is calling on civilians to take ownership by being aware of their rights as citizens of this country.

“We all play a major role in contributing towards the maintenance of peace and good order in the community,” he said.

He stressed that the slogan of “securing a safer community in partnership” tagged on police vehicles speaks volumes as indication to this approach.
