Madang to commence Provincial Games

The Sports Office under the Community Development Department is working around the clock to ensure its all systems go from January 26 to the 29th.

Provincial Sports Officer Robin Hevesa said the four day tournament will see the six districts compete against each other in various codes.

Districts sports officers have been lodging team numbers in preparation for the tournament.

 “Teams will take part in soccer, volleyball, basketball, karate, kickboxing, dart and touch rugby,” he said.

Customers expressed satisfaction at the opening of the new department store.

The Supermarket has a modern liquor shop, pharmacy, electrical appliance section selling phones and gadgets, bakery, freezer, grocery and a little kiosk serving hot food.

Customers commended the management for establishing a branch in WNB as a modern supermarket.

Kimbe starts preparation of PNG Games

Apart from the main location at the old golf course at San Remo, other satellite areas in Hoskins, Kapore and Kulungi have also been cleared by the contractor.

Nivani has been contracted to do backfilling at those sites and have cleared all those sites late last year and are continuing this month.

Hygiene complaints about takeaways and kaibars

Complaints have been received from many people that the Provincial Environmental Health Office and health inspectors are not conducting regular inspections.

The recent purchase from an Asian owned supermarket at Kapiura by a health worker revealed maggot infested flour which was cooked and caused food poisoning.

The public in Kimbe are calling for health inspectors to check all fast food outlets to ensure food preparation and cooking is done safely and according to the Health and Sanitation Act of the country.

Nurses at Kimbe busy with babies

Nine babies including fraternal twins were born at the hospital.

Five were boys and 4 girls.  The new born babies and their mothers are safe.

A couple from Kandrian on the south coast of the province had the heaviest baby born, a girl weighing 3.8kg.

With the Christmas and New Year’s births, nurses recorded a total of 21 babies born on Christmas and New Year’s Days.

Children in villages enjoying holidays

This is when  many children in our villages are seen to be enjoying every single day, being free to have fun by getting themselves involved in many activities.

Children from Koimumu and Lavege villages, in Kimbe, West New Britain Province, when asked what they had planned for holidays had this to say:

“We will be fishing at times in our canoes in the sea or on the Kapiura River. Other times we get to hunt in the bush, or help our parents in the gardens. Most times we will be playing on the beach or swimming.”

Fire destroys two shops in Kimbe

Police reports claim a fire started at one of the shops and then spread to the other, destroying  the shops.

It started inside the Welcome Trading premises and rapidly spread to Kakaruk Trading as well.

The Kimbe Fire Service was alerted by police in the morning on Thursday but ran out of water to hose down the flames.

Another two buildings,  the Wal mart Shop and Able Computing, who share with Police Savings and Loans office, were saved from the fire.

Police were on full alert after the fire, controlling possible looters and opportunistists.
