Children in villages enjoying holidays

It’s once again that time of the year when children and teachers take a long break from school.

This is when  many children in our villages are seen to be enjoying every single day, being free to have fun by getting themselves involved in many activities.

Children from Koimumu and Lavege villages, in Kimbe, West New Britain Province, when asked what they had planned for holidays had this to say:

“We will be fishing at times in our canoes in the sea or on the Kapiura River. Other times we get to hunt in the bush, or help our parents in the gardens. Most times we will be playing on the beach or swimming.”

“Once in a while we will travel into town with our parents but we are mostly like to spend days in the village. Sometimes we follow our parents to dig for wild fowl (megapode) eggs. We love these rich source of protein. The eggs are sold at the market on the roadside by our mothers too, so they can at least pay for our school clothes next year.”

“It’s always fun during holidays and we are really enjoying this break.”
