National Speaker Theo Zurenouc hands over body of late Agiru

On May 13, 2016, National Parliament Speaker Theodore Zurenuoc handed the body of late governor to the provincial government.

The body was received by the Provincial administrator William Bando and the leaders.

Zurenuoc described the late governor as the prophetic son sent by God to deliver Hela Province.

He said the death of Agiru is a great loss to the people of Hela and the nation as a whole.

Hela and SHP MPs promise to deliver projects initiated by late Agiru

In a collective statement, the MPs expressed their desire to see the projects and commitments of the Late Governor to be continued and properly funded by the Government.

They highlighted that many of these projects are ongoing and the Government has already started implementing these for completion in Hela and the Southern Highlands.

Agiru, shining star of Hela – in deed a political icon of our day

The body of late Hela Governor Anderson Agiru will be laid to rest at Dauli tomorrow.

Today marks 22 days since late Agiru’s death on April 28.

Hela's favourite son died at around 10am on April 28, 2016 at the Pacific International Hospital in Port Moresby.

Late Agiru died of a suspected heart attack.

Pastor Walters challenges leaders to be incorruptible

Speaking during the funeral service of late Hela Governor Anderson Agiru today at the Sir John Guise stadium in Port Moresby, Walters said the only cure and remedy of corruption is the Word of God.

He told the leaders and families gathered not to allow the corruptible nature to take control of their lives but to change and put on the incorruptible seed.

Reverend Walters urged the leaders to change within first before they change the country.

Sir Michael expresses sadness at the passing of late Agiru

Sir Michael in a statement said: “I came to know the late Governor Anderson Agiru in 1997 when he first entered parliament and worked closely with him after his re-election in 2007.

“He joined the new generation of leaders that entered politics at the time and was part of my coalition government until 2011.”

Sir Michael said they (Agiru and Sir Michael) worked well together to ensure Hela became a province and prior to that the delivery of the PNG LNG project.

Agiru was very humble: Sir Julius

Sir Julius in a statement conveyed his sincere condolences to the family and people of Southern Highlands especially Hela on the untimely passing of Governor Anderson Agiru,  a friend and humble leader in government- who passed away yesterday morning, April 28.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of New Ireland, I extend our condolences and sympathy to the family of the Late Governor.

“Governor Agiru was a man who dedicated his life to serving the people of Hela and Papua New Guinea.

Viewing of late Agiru’s body this afternoon

Committee responsible for his funeral arrangement told Loop PNG that the viewing of the body will only take a few hours  before the body is taken back to the Erima Funeral Home.

Late Agiru died on the morning of Thursday, April 28, 2016.

He was 54 and died peacefully at about 8 am.

He had been receiving treatment for kidney malfunction since June 2015.

Agiru was leader of the People’s United Assembly and first Governor of the new Hela Province.

He was first elected to Parliament in 1997 and became leader of the United Resources Party.

Committee to discuss Agiru’s funeral programme

The committee spokesperson told Loop PNG this morning that a formal programme of his funeral services and burial will be made known today after their discussion.

Meantime, the body remains a property of the State.

Late Aigiru died of a suspected heart attack yesterday morning.

According to his consulting doctor at the Pacific International Hospital Dr Paul Mondia, the politician was battling diabetes which he suspected led to further complications inducing a heart attack.

The body is currently at the Erima Funeral Home in Port Moresby.

Legality of Potape’s election to be made known soon

Potape was purportedly elected governor of the province by members of the Hela Provincial Assembly, ousting the Hela Regional Member elect Anderson Agiru.

The matter returned before Justice Ere Kariko yesterday (Thursday) where counsels representing Agiru and Potape presented submissions in court.

Counsel representing Agiru, Greg Egan told the court that the election of Potape failed to comply with section 8(3) of the Hela Provincial Assembly Standing Orders where it was supposed to move the motion “after” seven days.

Political tussle won’t affect project: Potape

He said the LNG project is the Hela people’s baby.

He said what other leaders of the country have alluded to about the project, especially given the current situation is not true.
