BSP Schools Kriket program launched

The award winning junior development program has grown each year since its inception in 2010 and has proven a record of building and providing a pathway for excellence in the sport.

2016 was no exception as the program reached 188,407 participants across 252 schools and 110 clinics across eleven (11) regions across the country. This mark beat the previous year’s record of 171,500 which was reached in 2013 across 297 schools. 

Cricket PNG announces new National Selection Panel

The four-man NSP will be led by Daniel Faunt (Chairman of Selectors) with Taunao Vai (Selector), Navu Maha (Selector) and Dipak Patel (Head Coach/Selector) making up the panel. 

Faunt, Vai and Patel were retained in the NSP from last year, with Maha the only new member of the NSP.

Maha is a former Hebou PNG Barramundis captain and was the team manager for the International Cricket Council World Cricket League Championship matches against Kenya in the country last year.

More ICC matches to be played in PNG in 2017

History was made this year when ICC Intercontinental Cup (ICUP) and ICC World Cricket League (WCL) matches were played this year at Amini Park, Port Moresby.

Chief Executive Officer for CPNG, Greg Campbell said this was a milestone for CPNG.

“This was one of our highlights for the year, being able to successfully host ICUP and WCL matches in Port Moresby.

“Next year we will not only be hosting these matches, but we will be hosting official One Day International (ODI) matches.

ICC match set for tomorow

The world record holder for the highest score in a one-day match, the PNG Hebou Barramundis will take on South African rival team Namibia tomorrow at the Amini cricket park in Port Moresby.

Aussie cricket legends drive awareness in Big Bash

The legends include Lisa Carprini Sthalekar the former Australian female hard hitting batswoman and off-spiner, Geoff Francis Lawson the early 1980s Australia’s leading fast paced bowler, Christopher Stewart Martin former New Zealand’s fast-medium bowler and Geoffrey Robert Marsh the former Australia’s right-hand opening batsman.

 All depart Port Moresby with great honour after conducting awareness on drink and drive and violence against women in selected communities in the city through cricket with the support of Pacific MMI insurance.

Barras to take on Tasmania in Australian states cricket fest

In a major boost for Cricket PNG, the Hebou PNG Barramundis will take on Tasmania tomorrow, Western Australia on Friday and Queensland next Monday over the space of a week in 50 over matches at the Maroochydore Cricket Ground on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. 

Cricket PNG CEO Greg Campbell said this is a wonderful opportunity for our Hebou PNG Barramundis to play against some of the best elite cricketers from an ICC Full-Member Country (Australia).

Patel’s contract as Barras coach renewed

 The announcement was made by CPNG Chief Executive Officer, Greg Campbell.

 “Cricket PNG is fortunate to have Coach Patel on board with us as Head Coach...he is our longest serving coach and has done a tremendous job in shaping our cricket players into professional athletes both on and off field,” said Campbell.

 “His experience and coaching method is invaluable to our sporting code’s strive for excellence,” said Campbell.

 The former New Zealand cricket player made his decision to renew his contract last week.

Legends Big Bash coming to POM

The event, that is sponsored by Pacific MMI, will run from August 31- September 5 in Port Moresby.

Cricket Star Lisa Sthalekar to visit PNG

Sthalekar, a right handed all-rounder, was rated the leading all-rounder in the world when rankings were first introduced.

The two-time International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup winner (2005 and 2013) will travel to Port Moresby with other international cricket stars to participate in the Pacific MMI ‘Don’t Drink and Drive’ Legends Big Bash.

No stranger to ICC global success, Sthalekar is particularly keen on speaking to the PNG women’s national cricket team and recent ICC East Asia Pacific winners, the City Pharmacy Ltd. (CPL) PNG Lewas.

Dorgan new chairman of CPNG

Dorgan, who is the managing director of Pacific MMI Insurance, was unanimously elected as chairman at the recent CPNG Annual General Meeting.

Dorgan takes over from Mick Nades, who resigned as chairman.

A board member since 2013, Dorgan has worked in infrastructure and development roles with Cricket PNG before becoming deputy chairman in 2015.

The new chairman elect said he was extremely proud and privileged.
