‘Exercise Pukpuk’ a step towards 2018 APEC

This was highlighted by the Commanding Officer for the 1RPIR, Lt. Colonel Boniface Aruma, who told media that the battalion will be the main joint task force group that will provide security for APEC.

Aruma says his troops have already embarked on conventional operations training, which commenced last month and will finish on the 15th of December.

“The personnel are out on field going through conventional operations which is the basic fundamental of war fighting.

“It’s living in the jungle, operating in the jungle and fighting the war in the jungle,” he says.

​American firm will train elite team: Baki

Police Commissioner Gari Baki revealed that the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary is currently engaged in discussions with Laurence Aviation & Security Group.

He made this comment following speculations made on an internet blog site over the engagement of the Americans.

Laurence Aviation & Security Group is an American based company that offers high-end security solutions to its customers globally, including the United States Government. It is staffed by former American military and police personnel.

Aussie committed to help protect PNG’s marine resource

Australia Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull revealed this in Port Moresby today after a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.

He also visited World War II memorials including Kokoda and the Bomana War Cemetery.  

Turnbull said the solidarity and friendship shown by people of both countries in 1942 is evident in the relationship and bond experienced today.

 “We also talked about protecting the maritime resources, fisheries from illegal fishing,” Turnbull said.

Free education changing lives: PM

Speaking on International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said: “With education, and improved literacy and numeracy skills, women have greater opportunities to have careers and to start businesses.

“With education, women are better informed to make family planning choices and to be able to decide if and at what point in their lives to have a family.

“We must never let the opportunity for free education be lost in the future, and we must continue to ensure girls have equal an opportunity to enjoy their right to education.”

APEC Study Centre conference scheduled for May 2018

The ASC Consortium Conference is an annual conference hosted by ACS’s in the APEC Host Economy for that year.

PNG who will be hosting the 2018 APEC Summit will thus be hosting next years ASC Consortium Conference.

The annual conference provides an opportunity for academics and scholars from around the region to discuss their research and identify areas for collaboration.

ASCs are independent from APEC and their functions and funding arrangements are not uniform. This independence and flexibility ensures the integrity of the ASC process.

High-level security workshop to be hosted

This is to cover one of the important elements to APEC Security, says Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.

"Under the Joint Security Task Force, a Border Security Workshop will convene that will bring together relevant Government agencies to assess concerns and gaps, and set the way forward, not only for APEC but the longer-term border security of the nation,” the Prime Minister said.

"We have ongoing border security concerns that are being addressed, and we must increase the pace of these activities.

Security detail on route for major events

PNGDF Chief of Force preparation, Colonel Siale Diro told PNG Loop that all citizens and visitors or observers can be rest assured that the special defense forces as well as their support agencies are gearing up for all these international meets.

The citizens of this country should be assured that should there be an international security incident there is a Long range reconnaissance unit on standby to support police and government during the upcoming FIFA  games and APEC Summit in 2018.

Security preparations begin for APEC 2018

The Joint Services Task Force designated to coordinate security operations for APEC 2018, has been in workshop at the "Exercise Long Reach 2016" since Monday with the focus of building the JTF Headquarters structure, the control, command, coordination and the communication requirements for the execution of security operations during APEC 2018.

This saw representatives of Joint Disciplinary Forces from both Australia and Papua New Guinea go into long and deep discussions about the security preparations for 2018.
