This follows a strong representation made by the Global Managing Director of the TBI, Michael McNair in a meeting with the Minister for International Trade and Investment, Richard Maru at the margins of the World Economic Forum in Davos- Klosters, Switzerland last month on their eagerness to open a fully-fledged office in PNG this year.

National Statistician, John Igitoi, explained that this “special” night, approved by the National Executive Council is called “reference night”.

Igitoi said since people move around a lot, they have come up with the idea to “freeze the population”.

“The ‘freezing point’ or ‘a point in time’ is the Reference Night –Sunday 16th of June 2024,” he said.

Unitech’s Student Representative Senate (SRS) pointed out that construction was scheduled to be completed by September 2022. However, the project, which was supposed to take eight months to complete, has come to a halt following in-house issues with the contractor, Regional Engineering and Construction Ltd.

With no proper dialogue between the students and administration, the Student Representative Senate shut down the school mess on Monday, April 10^th, appealing to the senior executive management team to be transparent and tell them what is going on.

He said after an assessment was done on the office, a decision was reached that it was no longer viable to operate.

The move follows the termination of a PNG diplomat in Taipei last year for assaulting his wife in public.

With the appointment of new board members for the NCC since 2016, Ambassador Pomelau addressed that apart from being a GBV advocate, Mrs Sios brings to the board the importance of her own personal management experience and finance that would be important to the work of the Board.

“She is a woman doing a lot of work in the fashion space and over, but is recognized for running management, finances and businesses, which is an important addition to the board,” said Amb. Pomaleu.

The NCC was established by an Act of Parliament on 27 October 1994 to preserve, promote, develop and safeguard the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the country.

The Executive Director heads the Commission and the Commission’s Board according to respective Acts guides its cultural functions.

It has been six years since the last swearing-in ceremony of the old board on 14 April 2016 and the National Executive Council endorsed it on the 12^th of October 2021, the new board sworn in speaks of the direction of change that is forthcoming.

Prime Minister James Marape made the announcement on December 10^th in Kavieng at the official Government residence where he met with New Ireland Governor, Sir Julius Chan, and Provincial Executive members.

Marape said once all documents and payments are finalised, an official launching would be held next year where he would make a more formal visit to the province.

The newly endorsed Kumul Agriculture Limited (KAL) will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Kumul Consolidated Holdings (KCH).

Minister for Public Enterprises and State Investments, William Duma, says KCH will transfer all legal titles of agricultural assets, whether held directly or indirectly, to KAL.

Minister for Public Enterprises and State Investments, William Duma, congratulated the appointees, expressing his confidence in the team’s role in facilitating the establishment process of KAL.

“We are confident in the consolidation of all State owned agricultural assets as the move will be of greater benefit to our sovereign State. The Board of Directors will use their extensive knowledge and experience to drive this entity forward in achieving its purpose,” Minister Duma said.

Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Hawkins, when updating Port Moresby Business houses, made these remarks recently.

Amongst the hectic schedule of the Summit, there will be several periods in November where movement will be restricted due to high level security movements of leaders and delegations while the 21 economy leaders are attending the APEC Leaders’ Summit.

The days of high activity are from the 15th to 18th November, with 15th and 16th November being considered as public holidays.
