Vele to contest NCD Regional Seat

Wari Vele will run the race under the banner of the People’s Labor Party, of which Madang Governor Peter Yama is party leader.

Vele announced this on Monday, 18th April to Motuan villagers of Vabukori, Tainaladeara, Kila Police Barracks and Gabutu in the Moresby South Electorate, who gathered at Taikone Village.
Vele addressed the people at the invitation of Taikone villagers, who want a change in leadership for several reasons including prolonged water issues that have not been resolved.

Fire guts Rigo candidate’s home

Fortunately, Wari Vele and his family and dependents escaped unscathed.

Candidate Vele is unaware of the cause of the fire, but believes foul play was involved.

“I cannot rule out arson because the fire started from an area (verandah) where there were no electrical wiring,” he told Loop PNG.

He said a group of boys raised the alarm when they noticed flames racing along the roof of the house.

“It was highly suspicious. The fire started and within 15-30 minutes, the entire house was engulfed in flames.”

Politicians settle decade-long feud

The duo did a public reconciliation at the Jack Pidik Park today to announce to the public their decision now that Vele will be contesting the Rigo Open.

Vele and Parkop were rivals contesting the Governor’s seat in 2007 and 2012.

Electoral coordinator of NCD governor, Lawrence Martin said the reconciliation is a process to combine forces and introduce corporation from Vele’s supporters in NCD to help Parkop contest in this election.
