Politicians settle decade-long feud

Rivals in the 2007 and 2012 elections Wari Vele and Powes Parkop have reconciled as the 2017 National Elections approaches.

The duo did a public reconciliation at the Jack Pidik Park today to announce to the public their decision now that Vele will be contesting the Rigo Open.

Vele and Parkop were rivals contesting the Governor’s seat in 2007 and 2012.

Electoral coordinator of NCD governor, Lawrence Martin said the reconciliation is a process to combine forces and introduce corporation from Vele’s supporters in NCD to help Parkop contest in this election.

“The reconciliation means a lot for Vele and his supporters and it was exciting to see the two leaders shake hand and reconcile, and for the supporters to also unite and support Parkop’s campaign for the Governor’s seat.

“They will be supporting each other during the campaign period and work together during the elections to bring change for the better,” Martin said.

Wari Vele’s campaign team leader George Daera said his people in Rigo have decided to give him a run.

“The leader has heard the cry of his own people in Rigo to contest the Rigo Open. His supporters in NCD will give their support to Parkop.

“This reconciliation is to unite us Vele’s supporters in NCD with the current Governor to support his campaign.

“Vele and Parkop will make a public reconciliation on Monday at Hula to show that they have reconciled and Parkop will now be supporting Vele to run for Rigo Open,” Daera said.

Daera called on all Vele’s supporters to join and work together, stand together and support Parkop.
