Time for a female Governor-General!

Parliament will nominate a new Governor-General this month as Sir Michael Ogio’s term expires after six years.

Polye said gender equity is a major issue in PNG. This country needs a female Governor-General not just to balance gender but to give a fair voice for women in the country.

“It is proven that women perform very well when under pressure and when they come under compromise they continue to stand steadfast on their functions,” stated Polye.

PNGeans hope for a fresh start in 2017

Loop PNG took to social media and asked what resolutions people would be making for the New Year and this is what some had to say:

Samantha Kome in Port Moresby said that her New Year’s resolution is to be fit and healthy while Rachael Tarsan said she wants to just live life a little more on the edge.

Also in Moresby, Jeoffrey Kotokoto said he will minimise the use of social media and spend time on educational materials in the New Year.

Constance Kanau in New Ireland said she aims to save more by spending less, which is what most people hope to do in 2017.

Santa Claus is already in town!

And no he is not resting somewhere to make a secret visit at night.

Have you been to any big shops near you lately?

Because with shops picking up on the busy mode, the man dressed in red with the long white beard is sure to be nearby.

Make this Christmas a memorable one.

Bring your child for a Santa treat; sit on his lap and take a picture with him!

Points to help you travel PNG without being stressed out

If you’re a frequent visitor to the home of the metal bird, you’d know the tricks to have a hassle free trip.

For first timers and to refresh your mind, Loop PNG lifestyle has put together a few reminders to help make this travel easy for you.

Here are a few points to keep in mind when heading to Jacksons Airport or any other local airports:

Bring the cancer facilities to PNG!

There may come a time when you, or someone close to you, will be told that the only option now is to go to the Philippines or Australia or Singapore.

When faced with reality, only those who can afford are flying abroad for cancer diagnosis and treatments while even more remain in the country and lose the battle.

Project manager of PNG’s Walk the Talk against Cancer, Barbara Toiya, says the real need now is to bring in the cancer facilities.

This should be ultimate goal in PNG’s fight against cancer.

Addressing the gap in PNG’s fashion industry

This is seen as timely, to feed the growing fashion craze in the country.

But another problem lies, and for someone like Hazel Navaru who once fell in this shoes, there is a need for an institute to fully develop such creativity.

Navaru had to travel all the way to the Philippines to study at the Fashion Institute of Design and Art for two years. Another six months with some of the best designers in the world taught Navaru the real meaning of fashion.

PNG went down against NZ

Losing all 3 matches since Monday starting with New Caledonia, than Guam and New Zealand today, the PNG girls finished fourth after the preliminary finals.

That now completes Group B preliminary games.

The PNG side will now progress into the Division B semi-final, to be played at 3pm (Fiji Time, 12noon PNG time) on Thursday, 8/12 against the host side Fiji.

Aopi describes Resource sector as ‘roller coaster’

President of the PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum, Gerea Aopi, says this follows falling commodity prices, natural disasters as well as reforms to the sector.

“PNG has been impacted by the El Nino and the fluctuating commodity prices, as for the resource sector, we have faced a level of uncertainty due to the various reforms underway. Some of these include proposed changes to the Mining Act and the recent tax measures announced as part of the government budget process.

PM seeks to host APEC mining meeting

Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, says the hosting of the infrequent meeting will create opportunities for partnerships.

“As part of Papua New Guinea’s hosting of the APEC process, we will seek to host an APEC Mining Ministerial Meeting.

“There have only been three APEC Mining Ministerial Meetings in the past ten years. I see these meetings as essential for promoting co-operation and innovation in this sector,” O’Neil said.

PM O’Neill: Papua New Guineans have been the Perfect FIFA Hosts
