The local company (PNG Earth Bricks) responsible for the construction of the unique house is owned by Nixon Poia.

Poia registered his business in 2013 and began construction on the Asian design house in 2014, using bricks made from his company - PNG Earth Bricks Limited, based in Tambul.

The mix, according to Poia, includes a special soil type from his area (tested and approved by authorities), when baked, obtains the natural burnt umber type of colour.

And interestingly, the future of their existence lies with the children of this generation.

April Hope, a Language Surveyor with Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) PNG says teaching children tokples (mother tongue) will go a long way towards preserving this country's diverse languages and cultures.

“Children are amazing language-learners, and it will be much easier for them to learn to speak their tokples fluently if that's the language their parents speak to them every day in their homes,” she says.

The OFC championship is being hosted in Tahiti from February 11-24 with eight countries participating.

Hosts Tahiti take on current table leaders New Caledonia on the second day of Group A action in the OFC U-17 Championship in Papeete, Tahiti on 14 February.

Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu will open the day of action as they both fight for their first points in the competition at 4pm (local time).

Although their 3-2 loss to New Caledonia was heart-breaking for Papua New Guinea coach Harrison Kamake, he remains focussed on staying constructive and tweaking the side’s weaknesses.

“We are playing Vanuatu and they definitely are a good team,” he said.
