The pageant week begins with a church service and over the course of the week will assess each contestants through various activities planned.

Contestants representing eight Pacific Islands - American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Samoa and Tonga have all gathered in Apia, Samoa.

Contestants and their teams started arriving in Samoa last week for the 30^th anniversary of the Miss Pacific Islands.

The two European teams will take the field at 7:30pm in what is expected to be a showdown at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

France will be hoping to make the top four once again like they did in the 2014 World Cup in Canada, while Germany is out to defend the Cup.

France coach Gilles Eyquem said earlier that the team is focused on a good defensive game as Germany is a very good team and usually, when they have an opportunity to score, they take it.

Japan coach Asako Takakura said following their victory over Canada 5-0, that their next game will be the knockout stage so they will have to win it.

Takakura said if they lose the game their World Cup dream will be over so they will definitely push forward and trust themselves.

She added that individually each player will have to step up in order to progress to the next stage of the finals.

Coach Takakura admitted that although the game against Canada was tough, they were able to keep it under control and that worked out well for them.

The European team will take on New Zealand at 4pm local time at Bava Park in the last match of the Group C round.

France is behind New Zealand by one point on the group ladder sitting in third place with two points.

New Zealand is second on three points behind leaders the United States on four points.

France is yet to register a win in the tournament with two draw matches against USA nil all in the first match and 2-2 against Ghana in the second match.

New Zealand has one win, against Ghana 1-0 in the first match, and a loss to USA 3-1 in its second match.

PNG made their last appearance at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup taking on top team Korea DPR in the last round of the Group A matches in Port Moresby.

Despite going down 7-1 to Korea DPR, the home side focused on making history as a host nation by scoring its first ever goal in the tournament.

Gabong said hosting the World Cup is a history for PNG and for the players were privileged to have been part of the team. 

She said it was a bonus for the players to enter the tournament as the host nation.

The tournament is underway in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, from November 13-December 3 with 16 participating countries pooled in four groups.

USA has taken the lead on the points ladder for Group C, gaining three more points after defeating New Zealand 3-1 on Thursday, 17 November.

The North American team leads Group C on four points followed by New Zealand in second place on three points.

After two draw games against USA (nil all) and Ghana (2-2), France holds third place with two points and Ghana is behind on one point.

Germany coach Maren Meinert admitted that it’s not going to be an easy task because all teams came well prepared.

Meinert said they will take one game at a time and stay focused in order to win the tournament.

After defeating Venezuela 3-1 at their first match on Monday, Meinert said that she expected exactly the type of challenge put up by Venezuela because she knew they can play very good football.

The coach revealed that even though they’re the defending champions, they’re still a new team with different players compared to the last World Cup in Canada 2014.

The Brazilians defeated PNG 9-0 in the second match for Group A of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup at the Sir John Guise Stadium, Port Moresby, on Sunday, November 13.

Bueno said after the game that the team had been working very hard for the World Cup tournament so they deserved the victory.

“We took all the opportunities that we had and scored so that’s the most important thing.

“We played with all respect for PNG like how we would play against all other opponents in this tournament,” Bueno said.

The tournament is underway from November 13-December 3 at Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

Germany is pooled in Group D with Mexico, Venezuela and South Korea.  

The Germans share three points with Mexico following their victories over Venezuela 3-1 and South Korea 2-0 respectively.

Germany however, is ahead on the ladder due to points for and against. Mexico is second on the ladder followed by Venezuela then South Korea.

In Group A, Brazil and North Korea share three points following their victories over home side PNG 9-0 and Sweden 2-0 respectively.
