New EMPNG, TotalEnergies management acknowledged

The new chairperson and Managing Director of ExxonMobil PNG Limited, Tera Shandro, was also acknowledged with the new Senior Vice President of Asia Pacific for TotalEnergies, Thomas Maurisse.

Shandro was appointed in May 2023, replacing Peter Larden, who became the senior upstream and low carbon solutions advisor to the ExxonMobil Corporation executive committee in Texas.

“There is also a change of leadership in Exxon, who are an outsized player and contributor to our economy,” said the PNG Chamber of Resources and Energy president, Anthony Smare.

Attendees acknowledged

The 17th PNG Resources and Energy Investment Conference, hosted at the Sydney International Convention Centre from December 10th-13th, attracted over 1,000 attendees from the PNG and Australian governments, project developers in PNG, investors, global financial institutions and state agencies.

The conference was hosted by the industry body representing the mineral resources and energy industries in PNG, the recently renamed PNG Chamber of Resources and Energy. It was formerly known as the PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum.

Sydney Conference attendees acknowledged

The 17th PNG Resources and Energy Investment Conference, hosted at the Sydney International Convention Centre from December 10th-13th, attracted over 1,000 attendees from the PNG and Australian governments, project developers in PNG, investors, global financial institutions and state agencies.

The conference was hosted by the PNG Chamber of Resources and Energy and is a body representing the country's extractive industry. It was formerly known as the PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum.

PNG’s security issues covered

Speaking at the 17th PNG Resources and Energy Investment Conference in Sydney, Australian Assistant Minister for Trade and Assistant Minister for Manufacturing, Senator Tim Ayres, said the agreement elevates, broadens and modernises the longstanding security relationship.

“It covers both traditional and non-traditional security issues like climate change, cybersecurity, gender-based violence and protecting critical infrastructure,” he outlined to attendees on Monday, December 11th, at the Sydney International Convention Centre.

New Ireland LNG prospect as big as Hides

Named the ‘Exotica North Gas Prospect’, privately owned Australian oil and gas exploration company, Peak Oil (PNG), made the discovery in 2017, and confirmed the presence of LNG this year, where they made the announcement at the 17th PNG Resources and Energy Investment Conference in Sydney on Tuesday, December 12th.

“We’ve got two petroleum prospecting licences between Lihir Island and New Ireland – the mainland,” said the Board Chair of PEAK, Professor Brent McInnes, who went to New Ireland in 1988 for his research studies.

Newmont’s strategic acquisition of Newcrest

President and CEO of Newmont Corporation, Tom Palmer, outlined this when discussing ‘The Newmont Perspective’ at the 17th PNG Resources and Energy Investment Conference at the Sydney International Convention Centre on Monday.

Palmer explained the global megatrends that impact the world and the industry, saying they fall into three categories: Society, Technology and Geopolitics.

‘Take Back PNG’ explained to investors

Prime Minister James Marape made this remark when opening the 17th Papua New Guinea Resources and Energy Conference in Sydney, Australia, this morning.

Speaking at a packed Sydney International Convention Centre, PM Marape painted the resource-rich PNG as a potential investor destination.

He explained that the ‘Take Back PNG’ mantra was about negotiating the best deals for both investors and PNG.

Renewable energy to transform Daru

The PNG Sustainable Development Program (PNGSDP) Chief Executive Officer Lesieli Taviri, made this known at the pre-conference session of the 17th PNG Resources and Energy Investment Conference on Sunday afternoon in Sydney.

Speaking at the Sydney International Convention Centre, Taviri highlighted the longstanding power issues affecting PNG, saying Daru continues to suffer from the lack of a reliable grid power.

After delegates register at the International Convention and Exhibition Centre, the PNG Chamber of Commerce and Energy (CORE) Senior Vice President, Richard Kassman, is scheduled to open the pre-conference session.

Tasman Environmental Markets’ Chief Customer Officer, Adrian Enright, will start off presentations with a talk on ‘Delivering a Decarbonisation Strategy for the Resources Sector in Papua New Guinea’.
