PNGRFL working with World Cup Committee to ensure safety

The World Cup will be played across played across Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea in four pools.

Three games will be played in PNG- October 28 and on November 5 and 12.

“Concerning security, it’s not up to the PNGRFL, the event is being organised by the World Cup Committee.

PNGRFL: Cutmore’s performance ‘unsatisfactory’

Cutmore’s contract was officially terminated last week after serving as CEO for just over a year with the PNGRFL. Cutmore was the first CEO of the PNGRFL to be terminated.

Tsaka said the decision to terminate Cutmore was made on the night of Monday 14 November at the PNGRFL board meeting.

“In a nutshell, when the CEO was first appointed in October 2015, the PNGRFL appointed him setting key priority areas and performance indicators that we felt were necessary to move the game forward.

PNGRFL pay tribute to Lloyd Robson

PNGRFL CEO, Bob Cutmore in a condolence message said to Robson’s son, Paul that it was a pleasure knowing Lloyd Robson and his impact on the greatest game of all.

“I still have vision of your dad in Tee shirt and shorts do his thing so that the game was always well presented.

“His involvement as trainer for the PNG Pacific Cup teams and his willingness to just get the job done for the betterment of those involved has left a lasting legacy,” said Cutmore.

Lloyd Robson aged 75 passed away peacefully last week at the Tweed Hospital in New South Wales.

T.I Stones champions of Hiri rugby league

The boys from Tatana led 10-4 at the break with tries to Linus Dick and Maru Kilina. The Broncos only four pointer came from Dairi Iageti.

T.I Stones pushed themselves further in front in the second half through a try from Sebastine Gaudi. This put the score at 14-4.

But the Broncos boys from Porebada village fought their way back scoring towards the end of the second half to level the score at 14-14, and force the game into extra time.

PNGRFL: Rugby league is bigger than any one individual

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Chairman of the PNGRFL, Sandis Tsaka said it will be working closely with the PNG NRL to bring those involved to answer for what he described as ‘unruly and disgraceful behaviour.’

“Rugby league as a sport like all other sports is bigger than any one individual. The incident that happened is deplorable and disgusting to say the least.

“The actions of a very few whom every spectator and fan had their eyes on ignited this unnecessary violence,” said Tsaka.

He added those individuals involved will be prosecuted.

PNGRFL says thank you to supporters

Chairman of the PNGRFL, Sandis Tsaka said he was humbled to learn of the overwhelming support given to the Kumuls team, the coach Michael Marum and his support staff.

 “I visited the dressing room after the win on Saturday night and the boys were really excited and appreciated the congratulations I conveyed to them on behalf of every supporter of our PNG LNG Kumuls.

“Skipper David Mead in his usual soft spoken character asked me to convey his thanks and those of his team mates to each and every one for your support, well wishes and prayers,” said Tsaka.

PNGRFL CEO: League at domestic level to be improved

He said that while the SP PNG Hunters had captivated the imagination and lifted the profile of PNG on the international stage, he will pay equal attention to developing the code domestically.

 “A large population of our rugby league members, and this includes the women, are involved in our domestic competitions and we need to focus a lot more of our attention on these players than we have done in the past,“ said Cutmore

Titans win Isoaimo Shield

They defeated Gaire team Kevaru Thunders 13-8 on the weekend at Gaire village.

Titans were boosted with Digicel Cup seasonal players Agiru John and Hubert Kila Pat from Isapea.

Thunders however are a foundation team from the league and comprised of mainly young players from Gaire village.

Titans were the first to score followed by a successful conversion 6-0. Having a heavier forward pack that was on the go, Titans maintained the lead until half time.

The village went into a rugby league fever as the crowd supported with excitement.

NRL Premiership trophy to visit PNG

The Provan-Summons trophy will arrive in Moresby on Thursday (29 October) accompanied by three officials of the 2015 NRL premiers, the North Queensland Cowboys.

They are former Cowboys, State of Origin Queensland and Australian rep Brent Tate, Cowboys general manager- commercial Steve Mitchell, and senior sales and development manager Jeffrey Reibel.

They will be welcomed at the Jackson’s International Airport by staff from Trukai Industries.
