Titans win Isoaimo Shield

Debutants JCI Titans are the champions of the Isoaimo rugby league competition in the Central Province and claim the Shield.

They defeated Gaire team Kevaru Thunders 13-8 on the weekend at Gaire village.

Titans were boosted with Digicel Cup seasonal players Agiru John and Hubert Kila Pat from Isapea.

Thunders however are a foundation team from the league and comprised of mainly young players from Gaire village.

Titans were the first to score followed by a successful conversion 6-0. Having a heavier forward pack that was on the go, Titans maintained the lead until half time.

The village went into a rugby league fever as the crowd supported with excitement.

In the second half, Titans continued holding the lead, kicking a field goal to make it 7-0 but Thunders fought back with an unconverted try, 7-4.

Titans scored another converted try to leave a 4 points gap 13-4 but Thunders roared back and sored an unconverted try, leaving thescoreĀ  board at 13-8.

The final six minutes of the game was intense with Thunders needing only one try to win but Titans maintained defence to claim victory and their maiden premiership.

Man of the match was awarded to Titansā€™ captain Hubert Romily Kila Pat who received his award from Chairman PNGRFL Sandis Tsaka.
